Default wiring guages

hey guys
was wondering where people are tapping into for their pos and neg to power some guages in one of those console guage pods??

also is the ECU down under the passenger kick panel??
and are the pin numbers written anywhere on it so i know which wire im tapping into for the o2 sensor as i have an AF guage to wire up??

where abouts is best to get power for the guages from??
any wires under there that will cause trouble if u tap into them??

Brenden all I can think of right now is taping into the brake wire. The wire from the fuse to the brake light switch only think of that one becaues it dosen't have power until the ignition on.

but that means pulling out radio to find wires = spaggetti = death LOL

damn small compartment back there when you have a single din DVD player and a single din screen

I ripped all mine out over the weekend just to install my iPod controller... much easier than patching in elsewhere...

The ECU pinouts are in the technical section somewhere - I'll see if I can find a link. As for power, you should only need to tap into the ECU wires (including earth), and a light for when the lights are on - you can get that from any of the lighting in the dash, or the auto surround, etc.

I can take a photo of what ones I used on the ecu and to run the gauge tomorrow if you like. Just remember when autometer say use the 5amp fuse... use it unless you like smoking

i wonder if the trans temp guage can use the inputs that the ECU uses..

otherwise i need to pick up a T piece to attach the sender it into my cooler line

ECU wiring is here:

It has the ECU pinouts for both the 6 & the V8.

O2 sensor wire for the 6 is #35 for the live side, and #4 for earth.
O2 sensor wires for the V8 are #35 & #4 for sensor 1, and #61 (power) & #23 (earth) for sensor 2.

Pin #37 is the auto trans temp sensor input - you could use that to go to a temp gauge.

Pin #98 is the output for the intake manifold runner control - you could hook it up to a light so you know when the BBM switch has flicked over to shorten the runners.

There's so much you can do when you know the right pinouts!!

How many wires does the gauge have? From memory, mine had 3 - one for O2 +ve (pin 35), one for earth (pin #4), and one to light the gauge at night - I hooked into the radio dimmer wire (it gets power when the lights are turned on).

In fact, for my V8, I actually wired up a on-off-on switch so I could monitor each bank of cylinders separately. So I had pin 35 to one input side of the switch, pin 61 to the other input side of the switch, and the middle switch pin then went to the gauge. You won't need this for an I6, but you could use a switch if you just wanted to turn the gauge off (it gets annoying sometimes having the whole thing moving constantly - good for the first week or so, but then the novelty wears off a bit).

A sender is a sender, I would think. You could always hook it up and see what temp readings you get, and if they're not right, then fit the separate sender instead. Remember that auto trans oil is under extremely high pressure in those pipes, so if you do connect a temp sender up, you really need to ensure that you have it clamped properly, or it will blow the hoses off the fittings. This is why I'd try the ECU pin way first, and only go the inline sender if the signal from that pin didn't work for the aftermarket temp gauge.

i would be going to enzed and get what ever they give me to make it attach safely

the o2 guage has 3 wires

the trans temp has pos and neg for the light and 3 male spade terminals for the sensor readout
1 pin is I (guessing ignition)
2 pin is G (guessing ground?)
3 pin is S (guessing sender?)

Yep, that makes sense (the I, G & S). I'd connect the S to pin 91 wire and see what results you get - a lot easier than putting in a new T piece etc. And easy enough to remove if it's no good - just use those little white or blue quick connectors for tapping into a wire, and if you need to remove it afterwards, just tape up where you joined..
