Does anyone have the schematics layout for the AU Air-con system? Preferably with Climate Control.
My T-Series is having an issue, the aircon compressor will just cut out, leaving you sweating on a hot day, but then will cut in again cool you down, then all of a sudden it cuts out again, gets hot, have to wind down the window, then cuts back in when its ready - seems to happen more after the car has been parked in the sun and has gotten hot inside. I think it will be something to do with the thermostat or there is a sensor down there somewhere that monitors air temp, just wanting to look at a schematic. I have checked the gas etc and everything is fine, I have a mate with an XR8 doing exactly the same thing so I am assuming it’s not the cc module. |

My XR8 is doing something similar too, except the compressor is on when I want it to be, but doesn't produce any cold air at all. Related?

not sure if it's the same problem that i had.. but my ac button seems to 'turn off' the light goes out.. and a/c is no longer turned on... however.. if i use the a/c max button.. i don't have problem at all... i assume it's a problem with the wiring behind the control panel...yet to pull it off an have a look...

Good call on the high pressure. Are the radiator fans running correctly? Can cause high condensor temps and cut the system till the pressure settles.A possibility anyway.

Could be a number of things . The only true way to check it is to have a set of refrigeration gauges put on it . You will need to take it to a Auto elect or dedicated auto air company . Could be t/stat ,crook tx valve , going out on high/low press control . If it it worse when the car is hot , I would say that possibly short of gas as this is the highest load and more than likely goes out on press control .
R134a is not as efficient as what R12 was , and the charge of gas is more critical . |

So if the car needs re-gassing, does that mean the system has a leak in it somewhere that should be fixed as well?

It is possible there is a leak but it is also normal for gas to escape over time . It permeates (?? spelling )through the hoses . look around the system hoses and joints for any evidence of oil on the joints or yellow dye if there is any in the system..

No worries will do. I also noticed (and excuse my lack of technical terms) that metal pipe that runs up the left hand top of the engine bay is still getting very cold, but still no cold air is getting through the vents? Does that still sound like a gas issue?

Just read this thread and found I have the same issue that Peuty and Eu-GenixX referred to on my series 1 futura: AC normal switch will cut out for no apparent reason but AC MAX switch stays on no worries. I have noticed with mine, if I physically push and hold the AC normal switch all the way in, the AC will stay running as long as I hold the switch in position. But if I select it ON and release it, it will turn off after a minute or two. I guess I’ll pull the panel off and have a look at the soldering. I’ll post my results later on. By the way, does anyone have a rough estimate I should expect for an AC regas. The AC is running fine (other than the switch issue) but just seems to struggle a bit on the hot days…Thanks

I've just recently had problems with mine too.
When its on the windscreen, it sometimes surges, or drops off when braking. When you turn the fan speed down, it wont go any less than 6. And when you push the off button, the fan keeps going. Then when you turn off the car completely... Fans still keep running. Usually solved by flicking the ignition or the engine on and off. I should know soon what it is, its down at the Auto Elec right now... They suspect it might be a vacume problem Apparently there's a self diagnosis thing they can do on it, so they are looking in to it. I now luv the XC even more... For its simplicity

Mate, I've got the same problem - and I'm kinda hoping I could fix it myself... _2: Have you got any details? IE: what the part was, how much 'expensive' is, where the amplifier is located. |

i recently also had my fan blower motor replaced.. as it had died.. and the guy who did it is a specialist in anthing dash related...thats all he does.. day in.. day out... he had a look at my switch.. and told me it's probably just a buggered switch.. and to get a new one... then i said yeah i'll pull it apart and have a look.. to which is replied with... and i quote "good luck" heh.. told me where the screws are etc.. just gotta remove the stereo and stuff... on another note.. he also advised i get my air con system serviced.. which he recommends to be done every 5 years... most ppl don't know this.. and just fix the air con when it stops being cold... (he wasn't trying to sell me the service..just saying i should get someone to do it) |

It was the fan controller unit behind the glove box. It backs onto an opening in one of the pipes which also can get leaves from the outside drawn into it. The leaves get caught in the cooling fins of the controller unit and decompose with time and condensation from the air con, which made the alloy oxidise and one of the metal bits rust, causing it to malfunction. Send a PM to FTG(forum sponsor) they have them available at the moment at a very reasonable price. http://fordforums.com.au/forumdisplay.php?f=127
