Hi All
It has come time to buy some new tyres for the AUII. I run the standard 215/60 R16 size, and currently have Dunlop SP Sport 200E's on it. I have had a good run out of the dunlops and have no complaints. My question is: Of those of you who run stock size tyres, which brand and type do you prefer for a balance of price/grip/quietness/longevity? TIA.

I can't tell you how well they run on the falcons, but on my old camry Bridgestone Turanza ER592's were simply excellent.
I think in 225/60 R16 they're about $170ea. |

cos I have been to a few tyre shops and no-one seems to like the dunlops. I've had a few people try to sell me some Michelin Energy XM1's, saying they're better. Can anyone confirm/deny this?

I ran a couple of sets of XM1's on my AU1 in the stock size of 205/65x15 before I got some XR8 alloys and switched to 225/55x16. The XM1's are mostly memorable for not being memorable, ie G'grids were noisy, Dunlop Monza D200's skittish in the wet, Bridgestone ER30's great until about 30% tread left then very slippery in the wet. The only thing that the XM1's stood out for was life, I got around 40,000km per set where normally I count myself lucky to get 25,000km.
So I'd say they were the best balance I've had in a stock-sized tyre.

hi, dunlops had a bad name years ago, they were known as "bang'a'lots"! but they are the standard fitment to ford for how many years now? so they cant be that bad! iv got dunlop sport 300e's ( 205/65/15 ) on 2 cars, 1 set are on 30,000ks and still have 3-4mm tread left. (30,000ks with NO wheel alignments/balancing, apart from when they were fitted but are rotated every 10,000! they are excellent in the wet-they let you know when they are going to give up, before they do (very mild understeer), i have used a range of tyres, ( Kumho, GoodYear, Bridgestone etc) and these would have to be the best

my au currently has nankangs on the back (they came on the car), but they don't seem too bad.
when i had to replace 2 tyres i bought some dunlop SP3000A's, apparently they are the standard tyre on XR6's and i figured my SR wouldn't get driven as hard as an xr6 so they'd do.. i can't fault the dunlops, or the nankangs for that matter (either the au is gutless and won't spin the tyres, or the nankangs are ok) next time i go shopping it will be for more dunlops -tim |

Absolutely loved the P6 Pirelli's i bought for mine.
Nice blend of grip, sportiness and quietness and mine wore quite well- Infinately better than those godawful Dunlop 200's. Got mine for $140 each, which is probably more expensive than the Dunlops

i had 225/55r16's on my car for ages. Fulda Exelero's and Bob Jane Xenon Z1's
they were both alright, although handling was a bit shoddy sometimes as the car rolled around on the side wall now im running 225/50r16 Yamaha's. cant remember the specific tyre and they are bloody unreal so far.
