AU servicing

Gday guys
I have an AU I xr6 : , i bought it with 157,000 on the clock and it has just ticked over to 160,000 i wanted to book it in for a service. I searched the car and couldnt find the service history : but was told by the previous owner it was nearing an oil change and had new leads and plugs, the thing that i needed to know most was the sort of cost im looking at for a service as im an apprentice and short on cash.

Depends what u mean by service?
A basic service is just oil and oil filter change.
if your not sure of the cars history then pay more to have the mechanic look over the whole car- (brakes, engine,suspenion, transmission etc.) If ur on a budget and it is running fine, u may be right just going the basic oil and filter change.
DO NOT PAY MORE THAN $80 as otherwise it's a rip off! If u can't do a minor service on ur own then I suggest u learn as to buy oil and a filter is like $30-40! I couldn't even change a tyre 2 years ago so it shows things are always easier than u think!

The other thing I would do is get the auto trannie serviced if its an auto. Should be about 140 bucks. If you don't have it serviced and it blows up it will cost you more than $2500 to get fixed. Its one of those things that a little maintenance can save you a lot of money. Get somebody to show you how to do a minor service. Its not that hard and it will save you a lot of dollars. If the car seems to be running OK then just to a minor service and the transmission

whats the reccomended stuff to change/service for a 200k km service?
as debs lane just hit that (VCT 6 cylinder)
its got a full ford service history and i just put a K&N in there

AU1s service interval is every 10000km, AU2s is every 15000km, with majors at multiples of 30000km for both, IIRC. So 200,000 is still only a minor service -easiest way to confirm is to look in the owners manual at the service intervals - it usually goes up to 180,000km, but follows a repeating pattern of minor/minor/major for AU1, and minor/major for AU2 & 3.

but when do you start again?? like the intervals include all different things leading upto 180k km.. but then after that it doesnt tell you anything just has the little tags that they stamp etc..

do we just start at the begining again?

Here's on one changing diff Oil. I would change this now, so you don't have to worry about it for a few years, or wonder if the previous owner(s) have bothered with it.

This should be done every year or so. You'd be surprised how much much accumulates in the TB.

I change the oil in both my AU1 and AU2 @ 10,000km intervals along with a new oil filter of course.

Plugs if they are standard items @ $4 each are cheap and easy to replace and should probably be done so every year or 20-24,000 kms.

The advice above regarding the auto service is good, the oil should be done every year.

If you slowly learn to do these things, you'll save yourself a lot of money over the lifetime of the car, and give yourself lots of satisfaction in being able to do a lot of the servicing yourself. This is especially so if you don't have much moula as you've stated above.

Don't be concerned about asking questions either, there are many good people here only too happy to help others learn.

Pretty much. The 195000km service should be the same as the 15000km service; the 210000 should be the same as the 30000 etc. A lot of those services have "check condition of belts/hoses etc and replace as necessary". First time 'round (< 180000km) these things probably don't require replacement - second time 'round, I'd do it as a preventative measure.

yeah thanks for the help guys, Yes i kno how to do an oil change i was just unsure with a newer car as i used to own a zk fairlane and was fairly good at treating the old girl. Just needed a bit of advice, thanks
