Default Rocker cover leaking

Hey Guro's, my rocker covers are leaking at the gaskets and I need to replace them. Who makes the best ones. Repco, Ford or somebody else ? Its on an XR8 ser 111 so I am not keen on doing this too often. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

They probably all come from the same factory. I usually get a price from both Repco and the Ford dealer, quite often one is a lot cheaper than the other and the Ford dealer is cheaper surprisingly often. I changed my (original) rocker cover gasket on my I6 at more than 300,000km and almost 8 years so I doubt you'd have to do it too often, even doing it twice as much as me LOL. BTW I got the new one from Ford.

How many K's on this car. I have had my covers off 4 to 6 times to get my tappet adjustment right when I put adjustables on it and they dont leak (same gaskets)

Its just done 100 thou but I had some work done to it because it cracked an exhaust spring. It could have been the way the gaskets were put on but the mechanics are pretty good so I just wanted to see if there are different quality gaskets out there. Sometimes some are better than others.

If its the steel one with the rubber bead it should be no drama. A good tip is to tighten the 3 lower bolts 1st as this edge cops the most oil then the upper ones 2nd. I always do it that way on the windsor and dont seem to have an issue , I hope this helps.

Did the mechanic re-use the original gasket, or did he replace it with something else?

The original gasket (rubber coated steel shim) is reusable as long as it is not damaged.

Are you sure the rocker cover bolts are not just loose?

The mechanic checked the three lower bolts on both sides this morning and they were all still tight. He said he could not remember which gasket he used last time but we did talk about finding which gaskets are the best.

Mine does the same, did it before the rebuild and still does it now as the original gaskets were used as we all thought they were reusable and would be fine.

Out of interest who built your engine? Might be confined to one builder at Tickford.

It never leaked before the work was done so its only a new thing. I couldn't blame the builder. Im not sure who built mine. I will have to check one day. I did see the plate once but didn't take much notice.
