So has anyone actually worked out if this is possible, using factory components. I would like to put it in my ute.

I was going to see if the thread was going to get back on topic again.
Will have a look around and see ... but can't promise anything.

I just got a headlight switch with delay off ebay for $33. Hopefully it should get here on Monday, and i can have a fiddle. I'll let you know how it goes (btw I have a AU3 Futura and I have no idea about my BEM. Where is it?)

BEM is in the dash underneath the centre console from memory.

It will plug n play in Futura and above. There is no need to go looking for the BEM, which, BTW, is under the dash to the LHS of the steering column.

Well, I have a pink BEM in my Futura, but there are about 7 pins not wired in on one of the plugs coming out of the BEM...

ok. Just got my new switch and tested it out.

Either, my switch is faulty (which it partly is), or it's not a straight swap. I'm having a fiddle now, so I'll let you all know.

ok. It is not a straight swap.

Reasons:

1: The fairmont switch is backlight with dash lights, and the low series loom does not have this wired in
2: The dimmer dash light switch is a slide, and the relay is not built in the switch mech. It is prob in the loom, or near the relay box, therefore, no dash lights, unless you hold it up at maximum.
3: The auto off switch uses a timer relay which is not built into the switch...

I'll see how I can go about getting this working now, as I have to justify buying the switch to my wife.... lol :togo:

Ok. Here it is:

The timer relay, and the other relay (for adjusting the dash light dimness) is all built into the BEM (smart cookie).

So, as far as I can see, the only thing I need to do is get the Fairmont wiring loom, and all should be sweet!

I'll try and source that from a wreckers, and let you all know.
