what kind of power increases do you think i should expect with getting a cam, dyno tune and the edit from JMM? Because judging by the increases that i got from what ive done so far, mabey i am expecting too much? Ive got 4499 pacemaker extractors, big snorkel, hi flow air filter, 2.5 redback cat back. And in all honesty there hasn't been a huge increase in noticeable power.

So I covered the 85mm hole I drilled in the lower section of the AU airbox today to see any differences,And fitted a 90mm PVC peice(testing only) after the airbox up to the flex elbow and after just a short drive up to the shop it has seemed to have lost some low range power/ torque....... I will drive it for a couple of weeks and see what the fuel economy does :togo: Im still deciding what Im going to do with the wagon at this stage it will stay a 4ltr 6cyl I just want more torque out of it with out loosing fuel economy,if to make more power means to use bucket load of fuel then really it makes more sense to slot a 5ltr under the bonnet and then start playing.??????? All Ive really done is 2.5" exh, tickford big mouth, and ram plate from the grill, big hole in the air box(yes it does make a differerence)

Hi, all,
I want to get the better airflow for a standard Ghia motor. I was wondering if somebody can give some details of material for the change to the airbox to intake manifold for me (and others who don't know) and how to go about it. Great ideas in the forums mates, but I for one need detailed instructions. A big please for some info'. Regards from cespenar. |

I have a AU Series 2 XR8 Auto.
I need to clear up some things. Will a shift kit make me quicker? A cam is 1g installed? I got quoted 4g installed.......Im in W.A.... Also i know these meat heads around just put on gear drives for sound. But do they actually do anything performance wise?

Good morning to all, since this is the perfromance mod thread i thought id just ask in here instead of starting a new one: forced induction on a vct xr6, is it worth it? turbo or blower? how is reliabilty and longevity of the car affected? i know there must be a thread on this somewhere but alas, i cant find it :( if theres anybody who has experience on this, any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

WeHaveIgnition .. the search button and also the forced induction section are there for that sort of question lol..
ive been told many times that hte VCT should be even BETTER on boost .. supercharger is cheap (the new Raptor kit seems a good buy) but isnt as expandable as a turbo setup is.. (most people use hte Snort Performance kit) the engines can take boost stock (bout 9psi i remember hearing(with enough fuel mods ie rising rate fuel regulator or similar) but to do it properly your looking at 10k (maybe cheaper if you can built it your self rather than a shop and or buy 2nd hand parts) there is several BUILT(internals upgraded as well etc) turbo falcons(of the AU and earlier variety) pushing good power and going for years still

There's a red XR6 VCT that had a Snort Stg 3 kit fitted to it .... and boy does that thing produces mountain-loads of torque ... nice and easy to punt around as well.
Longevitity comes down to the driver and the tune. When putting the boot into it (not that you really have to) ... traction becomes a REAL issue ... it has been run once at WSID that I know of and the owner only managed a 12sec 1/4 time .... due to excessive wheelspin on launch (no practice) ... and lots of wheelspin during gearchanges.

2 Being a mechanic i would have thought around $1000 no more than $1500 depends on the cam and if you need to get an tuner etc. 3 Top race engine builders don't use timing gears, if they don't use a chain you will find they use a belt. a good quality chain is all you need for most aplications.
