i brought a guage cup aswell, test fitted it in the car, and the only way to make the guages look good in a au is to buy the guage pod off the net, that is suited to the au and it goes under the ashtray. so i brought one of them aswell.

i only need one gauge tho so im going to try and make up a cup that goes behind the pod so i can put my phone or otherstuff in it.

Put an oil pressure guage in there, the one on the cluster is a fake.

"Fake" probably isnt the right word, rather its a switch. The OP gauge in the cluster will either show full pressure or none, it doesnt move from these positions and fluctuate like a proper gauge would. It was a real gauge in the early S1's, but because they moved up and down so much, people would take their cars to Ford thinking wtf is wrong when it was normal. Hence why Ford started putting switches in instead of proper gauges.

3/4 on the guage Aust, and IIRC it was more of a cost thing. Switches are cheaper and with all the upgrades for SII FoMoCo decided they needed to save $$$ somewhere.

Correct you are about 3/4, and who knows whether it was a cost thing or not, Ive heard both reasons behind it. Then again since when has Ford needed a reason to change something that makes perfect sense how it was.

I have a wiring diagram for the I6 if that's any help. On the 6, the O2 sensor connects to the PCM on pin 35 via a green wire with a blue trace. This wire would carry the signal you need for the gauge.

As for mounting gauges, I have a recurring dream that involves relocating the stereo head unit and getting a custom panel made up to fit the double DIN cavity left vacant. I hope to be able to fit a 2 5/8" vacc/boost gauge in the centre with 4 other 2" gauges clustered around it, probably AFR, engine oil temp, tranny oil temp and whatever else takes my fancy.

im happy with my 2 guages in their pod under the ash tray

and if you felt creative you could add a 3rd by removing the ash tray and making a custom pod in there that made it like a triple cluster

also if you wire up an o2 guage wrong.. they flash all strange etc and are ready for the bin

good luck

The diagram won't tell you much more. I meant have a look at your O2 sensor and see if it has a green wire with blue trace. If so, that's the one. Or does the V8 have an O2 sensor for each side? That might complicate things a bit.

V8 has a sensor each side.

OK so he will need to track down a V8 wiring diagram to get an idea of how/where the sensors are wired into the PCM.

Just do a search - I've posted this up before. or ECU pinouts are on here for both I6 and V8:

cheers JC and sly, heaps of help lol the more i got into it the more i thought i had to do.

i sent an email off to autometer, and they said it only had to be wired into one 02 sensor. ill still give the proper way a try and do it at the PCM, but it has never been removed so those shear bolts seem a bit concerning lol.

i could just run the signal wire down into the engine bay to the o2 sensor. ill suss it out see what is the easy option.

(cheers for the search jc- i have done numerous searches for PCM and was getting no where)

without pulling the shearbolts out i found a green wire, with blue trace and with silver dots. i left it alone though as i wasnt sure.

if i do go the o2 sensor route, what wire colour am i looking for here, on the drivers side the o2 sensor plugs into another wire that leads to the PCM the wire colours here are light green, yellow, grey and black/white.

well after a headcase day,
i went to the local mechanics he said he would charge $70 to find the wire and do the job lol. no thanks.
went to gauge works( a shop that only specializes in gauges, they told me they wernt sure and id need to find the stock wiring loom.
went to an auto electricans who "does not do aftermarket gear" he told me to go to car toys.
went to car toys they said installation should take about 2 hours at $75 an hour, lol $150 to put a $130ish gauge in.they said go to ford.
was near town so i went to stillwell ford, after waiting for 15 minutes they emerged with a dodgy wiring diagram that is on the technical files here. point at the o2 sensor and said follow that till you want to join. this still didnt answer my question of what wire do i join it to.
was about to go home when i thought id go check out KPM.
went to site sponer KPM who has also done all the work on my car (wasnt first choice becuase they are to far from home) spoke to Tim, he said no worries. came back with the bosch o2 sensor book found mine told me the signal wire is the black wire, follow that up past the plug wire colour may change and join there.

also got my gauge pod today very happy looks awesome in there. still not sure bout the second gauge might keep it as a phone hole for a while lol.

now i think its time for bed finished work at 5am
