Default Assistance Required (syd) a car....

hey guys.... well last night i smashed my BA :(

story is that one of the bob jane rims that was on my car collapsed during cornering and well..i went into the armco. :

now i have already organised for the car to be taken to smash repairers and all of that sort of things and im fine... sore back but otherwise un-hurt...
i will have pics available in the b-series section later on tonight when i actually get home and can sync with my camera .

now what i need if anyone has one or knows who can help me out...

i need a really cheap car (/loaner) to run around in for a few weeks untill
a) they fix mine
b) if they write it off untill i get a new one..

this car was my daily and only registered and running car (my turbo is a pure track car and has no ability to be registered as it self was a technical writeoff)

i need to keep the budget low as the excess on this car is going to whipe me out untill next pay (in a month :( )

anyone help me out?

Im living with a guy who is hiring a car from a mob somewhere in the cross that is only $20 a day.

And its like a 05 or 06 Elantra...

Im sure you could get a cheaper car if it was slightly older or a 'backpackers' car.

Was there a fault in the rim? Are they paying for your car repairs?

Maybe see them for a loan car.

I remember seeing a story on alloy rims a few years ago where they would spin them up to a certain speed and then stop them suddenly. Any that met the Australian standard held up okay and most of the cheap imports all of which looked good basically tore apart in the guts.

I don't know where Bob Jane get theirs, import them or manufacture here, but it'd be interesting to know how many others have failed like this. Do keep us informed of what they say and what if anything they do about it, should be a recall in my books but I wouldn't be surprised if that didn't eventuate.

Got any pics of how and where it failed, this is the sort of info that can help save people from a similar fate or worse.

Yes a pic of the rim would be very interesting.

You would hope that a major tyre company would not be selling anything up to
Australian standards.

Would Insurance pay out if you didn't have a rim that was to Aust. standards?

I can tell you know, it will be turned around on you as impact damage.
Its happened to me, I had a rim collapse exactly like your saying, so I know what your going through.
I had to go through fair trading to get anywhere with it. In the end I got money back for the set of rims.

i was in a decent corner when it just let go so angry that this could have happened earlier in a place where it would have been even more dangers then just hitting armco

Bastards. Put the 8 pieces of rim you have in a bag, go to bob-jane, then just lay them out on the bench and wait for a reply.

Lots of cheapies one can find with rego on them. When its out you can throw the car away (ie: sell to wrecker) or whatever.
