Default hello all

Hello All,

I just picked up an unfinished 4 cylinder, 4 speed capri project. The dude I bought it from told me he thinks its a GT but doesn't know how to tell. Can anyone tell me the differences and and appropriate numbers ???

For the car to be a 1600GT it will need to be a 1969 build, and a model number of 13918. If you have no compliance plate on the car (which will be located on the drivers inner guard near the front) post the first 6 elements of the chassis number which should be stamped on the slam panel (the panel the bonnet catch bolts to).

The codes I've got for all GT's both 6 and 4 are:
1969 13918
1970 13018
1971 13118
1972 13218.
Engine codes were:
D 1600cc 1V
F 1600cc 2V
P 3000cc V6.

The first 6 digits of the chassis number are CK30LD. I am pretty sure it is a 71 model. I'd have to check the other number during daylight hours. Also the compliance plate in the middle of the firewall.

March 1971 built in Homebush, Sydney. From 1970 the complience plates were fitted where yours is before that they were a date of manufacture plate fitted to the inner guard as cosworthfreak stated. Why don't you get in contact with our club, we would be glad to help you.

The '30' part of CK30LD tells me it's a 1600XL, which is roughly the same mechanical spec as the 1600GT, but the GT of that time was the V6. If it was CK14 it would be a 1600 Deluxe, CK17 denotes a GT for all years (incl. 1969).

Thanks guys for your help. I may join the club, but must admit, I am not to keen on the club scene, being a member of several clubs in the past and finding it all to hard at times.

Ah Yes but our club is not like those ones. Seriously we are lucky as we get decent enthusiasts, but also a broad outlook to modifications (Ford engine/shell of course)...A good balance.
The latest Street Fords Magazine No.37 has a 4 page article on our club, have a look.

I know what you mean about clubs Rob. I was a member of a number of clubs and could never really get what I wanted or they didn't quite cater for my needs. That's why I started the Small Ford Car Club of NSW, 18 years ago. Firstly to cater for me and to see if anyone else was like me. The club speakes for it's self we have approx 100 members and monthly runs/shows/socials. Our meetings are very popular, but we don't force people to come as some people just can't make it or that is not there thing. A bi-monthly colour mag is sent out and we have a forum http://classicford.mine.nu/sfcc/default.asp . We have a mix of cars from Anglias to Sierras and a broad age group of members which is a great asset and all have one common interest small Fords. If you send me your postal address I will send you some info and a mag or call me on 0419 609 454.
