Default Do i 'need' new shocks if i lower my AU?

I have an AU1 Sedan and i am lowering my car soon (its abit 4x4 hight at the moment) and i was wondering that if i get Kings Springs Superlows, do i need new shocks so that they can cope with the new springs or can i just run with the standard shocks?
I have heard that if you go below 'low' springs that you have to get new shocks but others who just have the springs say its fine.

You don't "need" them but your standard shocks will have a shorter life with the SL's.

Don't really know but I still have the OEM shocks in mine and while a little tired they don't leak and still do the job after 140+k.

may aswell change them over to shortened absorbers while you have access to to them, ecspecially if your paying to have them installed. There not super expensive.

I just can't think atm the way they were set up in the back end lol ?

in long, no but your ride quality will be utter crap in under 10 000 kays.

i'll take anyone for a ride in my car to prove it lol.

Not really, but it does get kinda crappy after a while.

Nice way to put it.
But yeah.. I think i might buy some then.
repco quoted me $250 for each shock.
then i just got told before they are wayyy overpriced (which i guessed)
So yeah i didnt feel like paying $1300 just to lower my car.

i found that going to mechanics and specialised workshops that its way cheaper than buying from repco, and also yer i suggest u get appropriate shocks for springs otherwise, like wats happened to me, u get a hole lot more other problems and if u cut springs well then its one bouncy ride.

but yer new shocks and springs and u wont have problems..

Yeah i might go to some workshops then..
trouble is i live in a small town..
Ebay could be and usually is the answer lol...
Yeah not going the cutting direction because i will just be annoyed with the bouncyness and just put kings in them anyways.
On another note pedders offered me $85 a spring and repco offered $120 for king springs super low set, which is excellent!
I said to repco oh do you mean for each spring???

as the subject of cuting springs has been mentioned i should clarify. cutting springs is illegal and dangerous and only attempted by the brain dead . cutting springs not only shortens the height of the car but reduces the overall length of spring steel, this completly changes the dynamics of the suspension. low springs are just more compressed but still have the same overall length of spring steel . never ever cut springs they are defectable and insurance will wipe you

you can probably get a set of ultima shocks and springs to lower your car for like 600 bucks.

Woody - IRS was standard on the XR6 VCT and XR8 across all series sedans. One could option it on the XR6 HP sedan, but would be a : if one did.

I've still got the standard shocks after going lows all round. What kind of troubles are you looking at besides crappy ride? I have noticed some creaking sounds coming from the suspension getting in and out of the car and going over small bumps in the road...

Yeah i havent really looked much into other brands..
But yeah.. Hard to look apart from on the net and in repco.......
Damn small town syndrome..

I prefer Pedders over Kings.
Seem less harsh..... never changed shocks when I did mine, I figured I would get the use out of them, then change them over. havent bottemed them out yet and Ive hit some pretty rough roads.....
Got my pedders of ebay for $100 second hand and fitted them myself

Actually, you have this all wrong, except for the bit about being illegal.

The practise of coil spring cutting is no problem at all, if done sensibly.
A coil spring is simply a spring steel rod, wound up into a coil. Several elements make up a coil springs 'stiffness', that is -

Wire diameter
Outside diameter of the coil
free length
Number of coils

Changing any number of the above, and the springs 'rate' changes, for example -

Increase the wire diameter, and spring rate increases.
Reduce the number of active coils and the spring rate increases.

Of course their are other things to watch out for, as in the case of E series cars where the rear springs can jump out if the free length is too short. Or in certain applications the spring won't seat right in the saddle.
Sometimes it is just better to use a different spring, however in some instances a cut coil is just fine.

Whilst I don't condone cutting coil springs on a street car, it is simply due to the legalities, not due to any safety reasons.
Coil cutting is common practise on the race track, and in many countries.
