Just wondering whether anyone uses a car cover and if so has it scratched or damaged the car at all?
I may be moving house shortly and the F6 may have to be parked outside of cover sometimes so I have been thinking of getting a car cover. However I am a bit wary of car covers as one of my mates had one that he used on a VS Clubsport and it ended up scratching all of the paint off of the rear spoiler as it was rubbing against it in the wind. Can anybody recommend me a top quality brand that I should look into? I don't mind having to spend a stupid amount of money on it if it is going to protect the car from damage. My dad is about to take delivery of a GT as well so we will also need one for that. Cheers

I know what you mean mate. I don't like using them either even with the car in the shed. Unless i know my car is spotless and it won't be moved for a while i won't use it. I bought a good Kenco one i think it's called. Think you can get ones specially for certian cars that fit very snug and most have clips etc to hold them. Maybe save up for a carport? LOL

To be honest, my car stays outside in our driveway (off the street so it's safe from drivers by) and I use the car as a daily driver. So putting a cover on and off each day is only going to scratch the hell out of it. So in my opinion, if you use the car more than a couple times a week, then no cover. The car has to be spoltessly clean when you put a cover on or it will scratch. Just invest in some very good wax and keep the car very clean and protect it in that way.

Well the house is a rental so it makes it hard to build a shed or something. It does have a small carport which can fit 2 cars in but there will be 5 or 6 cars there.

Yep definitely use a cover myself, But I only pull the XR out twice a month if i'm lucky.
But for a daily driver, nope, have to clean it too much

What about a cloth carport like this?
I'm sure Superbahn or Autocheap would sell something like that. All depends on whether or not the landlord would let you erect something like that too.

Yeah was thinking about one of those. Had a bit of a search on google today but wasn't sure what to call them.

I bought one of those from Total Span in Lilydale (vic) over 3 years ago.. Its not bad for a temporary solution...Being in the weather, i now have some holes in the material caused by the rubbing against the steel...

I use one every night unless it is raining or the car is wet. When i purchased the BA i also purchased a new water proof cover (go for the water proof one) and made sure to cut the straps and clips of. I cut the straps and clips of because before the BA i had a VT Commodore and i also use to put the cover on ever night but in doing so the straps and clips from the cover over time scratched and marked the paint when i packed or unpacked the cover.

I use one for the TS but it's in the shed, clean and doesn't come out that often. For me it's great. I didn't use one when it was a daily driver. Just polish.
With the T in retirement I had issues with our cat and his muddy paws across my freshly polished car. : No, the daughter would not let me hurt the cat.

I just purchased a Prestige waterproof car cover from Motoquipe here in Adelaide for the XR6, it does have a soft backing to it. First thing I also did is cut off the strap and clip off the cover to stop paint damage. My wife and I use the car approx. once a week and although it is in a garage, the dust from the building works (new estate) turns my mercury silver paint to white in just a matter of days! I dust off the car before the cover goes on though.

Yeah I use one all the time. The Fairlane wont fit in the garage so it's out on the street. Problem is it is white and there are trees that drop these little tan marks on it that will only polish out. If I park it on the street for just one freakin' day its covered in the stuff and another full polish is on the cards. Takes about 30 seconds to take on and off and has never blown off, even in massive storms.
I only use one of the blue cloth $30 Repco special's and that pretty much stops the sap and keeps it clean for the odd occasion I use it. As the car is white if the cover is scratching it it is very hard to see - I don't think it is but I don't put the cover on if its dirty. For the F6 though I might spend a little more on decent cover. Try the Kenco Tyvek ones but they will cost about $150 - 200. My little bro bought a full covered carport from Supercheap on special for $99, but only used it to spray paint the boat so I don't know how they stand up long term.
