Well I have looked at my logs carefully. The car ran very rich in third gear. I thought there wasnt much left in her but I was wrong. Some more careful tuning will continue and the wagon will go quicker without any further mods. mUAHAHAHAH

The throttle body is fine.It is that silly me ..I never noticed the mismatch between my throttle body and manifold mounting position. My manifold hole is smaller than the throttle body bore.It is being choked!!! Fords bodgey.

Excellent time Stav. Can not wait until it gets even colder and you keep tinkering around with the car.

You are one might persistent person.

Thanks Chiefy I want to do some basic non expensive mods that will get more out of the wagon.
Alot of people told my certain things I posted were ridiculous but those are what I am using to go faster...

I havent give up after all this time at all. I think there is more in it.The tune is not perfect, the bottom end is a second hand taxi bottom end. The intake is a restrictive mass produced ford item.Just like the heads. I think there is a bit more in it..

Without raining on your parade here Stav, as I recognise that you've done well and it is a very good time, though let's face it, it isn't really much of an improvement on last time, if any.

From memory your last best figures were 14.3~~ @ 97mph, and this time round it is 14.2~~ @ 96mph.

If we analyse this, you've gone 3 steps forward, and 3 steps backwards.
Sure the ET has improved by a frag, however the parameter which determines ACTUAL power, the terminal speed, has actually dropped.
So, to me, what has really happened here, as that you've managed to launch your car ever so slightly better to achieve the better ET, but in fact you've done it with less HP.

So whatever mods you've done to your car to increase power, have likely not done anything at all.

That's not to mention that it could simply have been the cooler weather which has given you a frag more low end power for that better launch. And if we do consider that, it means that you have actually lost more power than we assume because all things being equal, your terminal speed would also have improved as a consequence. But it didn't, it decreased.

As I said, I'm not here to criticise what you've done, as I think you're going very well, but I'm just trying to have a closer look at this. Their is no point in deluding ourselves that every one of our magical tricks always works.

Rick.

This could also be the result of head winds or different shift points, things aren't always as black and white as you may think.

Sox I know exactly what the car is doing....Exactly.

You are absolutely right.I have done no power mods at all since it ran last.I wanted to run it as is from last run.
My 97 MPH was ever done on 1 run ..being my flat 14.3 run.It was a fluke run. On the same night I ran 2 or 3 more 14.3's with less mph.
My average mph was between 95.7 and 96.7 mph when I ran the 14.301. My average mph now is also the same.To my surprise the cars 60 footers were awesome.

Ill sum my runs up for your analysis
run1 2.283 60footer 14.488 96.55mph
run2 2.038 60 footer 14.241 96.75mph
run 3 2.020 60footer 14.267 95.77mph
run 4 2.053 60 footer 14.298 96.39mph
Last 2 runs were in economy mode .The lastrun I nearly ran out of fuel and got fuel surge which showed up in my logs.

I know I am at the car's limits of power now. However the 11.9 air fuel ratio and pinging are telling me that if I do not blow the engine up..achieving better timing and fuel should propell the car faster.

Let me say it one more time ..I have changed nothing inthe car despite my posts with idea to make it faster.

The wagon has never gone to eastern creek/wsid and run slower.Every time it has gone out it gets a pb.I am pleased with the way it is running.

Economy mode is no different to power mode on WOT, so that won't change a thing.

Ok, so that confirms that it was the weather, or less weight due to lower fuel level which made you run slightly quicker.

Sox..do you think the 1/4 mile will improve if i go to 3.9 diff ratio from 4:11. I think my diff is killing power up top..?

Ah stuff it. Ill leave the diff. I will however see if I can get the manifold ,throttle body matched and see what it does then.

Power vs Economy mode can make a difference, in the AU it may mean gearchanges happen 100-200rpm later than normal, and if your power is up top, that means you're spending more time (the time it takes to climb that extra 100-200rpm, PLUS changing down to 100-200rpm higher than equivalent in Economy) in the "sweet spot".

Power mode doesn't give more power, it holds the car in its power range for a bit longer.

I doubt it, the 4:11's should be pretty right for it.
The rule of thumb is you want to be crossing the finish line at the RPM peak power is produced in top gear.

No, that's not right.
It's only correct on anything less than WOT, earler up changes, later downchanges, etc.

At WOT up shifting is identical.

Sox ..now I have a dilemma!! My handbook may be wrong? In economy mode and 100% throttle it says
economy mode
1-2 shift 73 kmph
2-3 shift 123
3-4 shift 175
Normal mode(PERFORMANCE)
1-2 shift 71 KMPH
2-3 shift 129
3-4 shift 179 kmph.

Doesnt this mean it has to rev harder wioth the exception of first gear to reach those speeds?

Well bugger me, as far as I knew, the shift points were the same at WOT, I remember from the earlier models. Perhaps this was changed with the AU.

I hate it when I'm wrong! :
