Default AU Headlights

Hi all,

Any idea how much AU 1 XR6 headlights cost. i need to replace the main headlight (PS) as it has water in it. Has had for ages but wont pass rego this time (Did last time same condition). Also, the smaller high beam is cracked. The place has quoted $1250 for genuine replacements or $500 for after market. This seems exhorbitant.

I will chase it up tomorrow but I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea how much they should cost.

Also, I am told there is rust forming on the drivers side chassis. Anyone else had similar problems.

Thanks

Thanks for that but think I can get away with just the headlight assemblies. May have to go to wreckers.

If i was you, I would send The_Dok a PM and ask him how much for the bits you need. His lights new, were cheaper than the quotes I got from wreckers.

The_Dok fixes lights for a living (his business is called The Headlight Hospital, so he must be a Light Dok). It won't be a question of splitting anything - I'm sure he'll have spare lights/globes etc lying around!

Your other option is to remove the lights, pull the globes out, remove them from their plastic housing and dry them out in an oven or with a hairdryer.

Thanks for the rap JC : most appreciated. If you want to PM me 98AUXR6 I'm sure I can supply you with all the bits you need to bring it up to roadworthy standard. I have many parts for the XR headlight & often sell the replacement beams seperately!!! :

FYI, I got a (genuine) replacement main-beam headlight for my XR (ie. the large one - complete with parking bulb but not H4 bulb IIRC) for about $150 from my Ford dealer. That's in Alice Springs Dollars - so you should be able to get 'em a bit cheaper whereever you are - them prices you got quoted are rediculus - maybe they include the whole light assy. with both headlight and driving light and the plastic frame they mount in - but even then that's way too expensive IMHO. Mine is AU3 but AFAIK AU1 is exactly the same. The exact same headlight from Hella is only $80 but Ford have slightly altered the mounting tabs on their version so you can't just get the generic Hella one.

BTW, the fun bit is how you have to remove the whole damn front bar to fit 'em.

Got to agree with JC here (again! this is getting weird : ). I've talked to Dok in PM's a few times and there is no way I'd go anywhere else for lights. Want lights, talk to Dok, end of story.

i recently purchased reconditioned xr lights from the doc, both sides plus brackets, all for $420 which included postage, So the price he is asking for new ones is a bargain. I wish I had waited.

For overall service, he was great- packed them well and shipped them promptly.
No worries

This is what it's all about, great feedback is priceless, you guys are fantastic.
Don't panic JC, the units I shipped to GTHOXR8 (is that you Alex) were "reco" so yours were the last lot before the price rise, (car looks ACE BTW, I've been following the threads), but so glad you guys are happy customers. I can tell you guys though that the new assy's have gone up in price, not much, but closer to $500 than not. The inner & outer beams I sell used @ $60-80 ea depending on condition. You still haven't picked yours up Casper ol chap. :

Hi Dok, yes it is me and once again thanks for the service.

I now have the lights and frames plus the xr front bar (in the colour I want) which I got from e-bay for $400, so I am set to put the XR front on my Forte for about $840. Just need the time to do it. The XR alloys are already on, just need to put the XR coils in to lower it a touch and then I am done!

I'm not worried. You quoted me a price, I was extremely happy with that price knowing what I'd been quoted from 3 different wreckers, plus what Ford wanted. The fact I transferred the money to you within an hour should tell you that!

Even if they were now cheaper than what I paid, it wouldn't matter to me. You had 'em, I wanted 'em, transaction done! The fact that they're now more expensive just means I got a bargain at the time.

Can you believe it has been about 2 and a half years since I posted this originally and I still have a broken front light end! Has been passed for Rego a few times but I was driving my Mazda 3. After a marriage break up the falcon is thankfully mine. I love the Mazda 3 but have really been enjoying the XR6 lately thanks to searching these forums and reading how to adjust the auto shift patterns to full time performance. It's like a different beast but still hate autos. Never buy another one. is the Doc still available?

But still need the lights. I want turbos etc but think I should get the basics sorted first.

JC - Still exploring BUCKNAKED's car (trying to accept buying another auto and the issues with marriage break up)

Damn ... that was a threadmine ... but seeing as you were the Original poster .. I'll forgive you :P

If you need to fix the light though ... I do recommend The Dok as well as JC.
I got my lights from him and they have been awesome.

Mine had a flat section at the top of the bezel plastic welded in ... like an eyelid.
Not sure if it was actually painted black ... best to ask The Dok.
Also NC Fairlane Projectors (without the clear plastic shield in front of the lens) were put in place of the H4 section ... rendering the outer light section as a H1 projector low beam only.

It has a jump loom to leave the H1 low beam on when switched to highbeam as well (not like the old H4 where it switched to highbeam).

There's a few sets around ... that's all that I know of.
