i have recently written off my 96 xh lonreach by hitting a power pole.
rac has assessed it and declared it a write off. i was wondering if anyone knows how i can buy it back off the rac? it had a xr6 motor and a c4 powerglide in it worth $$$ so would be very handy to be able to get the wreck back any help much appreciated |

Is the Powerglide roof mounted, or are you using it as a splitter for the C4 so you had a 6 speed?
Look through your policy - if it doesn't mention salvage or buy-back, get yourself down to the auctions. Maybe a call to your insurance company would be more useful than asking here.

Tell the assesor you want salvage rights and they will give you a figure.
You can argue and/or accept and they will deliver it to your house and post you a cheque for the difference. Worst case you can head to the auctions - Pickles usually for RAC - and get it there. To everyone it would just be an XH, so it will probably go for less than RAC will offer as salvage. |

Talk to the assessor that is doing your car
Don't waste time calling the company, except to get the assesors name The assessor decides who gets the wreck, the value etc He will offer it to other panelbeaters to try to get a figure. Kinda depends on whether anyone else wants to fix it, price could be high or low depending on what offers he gets. If they notice the extra mods price might be higher. If they are flat out busy no one will want it I have bought a couple of my wrecks back for spares If it is written off, it goes on the written off vehicle register (WOVR) and gets a sticker on the window. To re register a car on the WOVR it needs to be reinspected, that can cost $$$$ They are Queensland rules anyway Could be different elsewhere |
