Tricks to getting steering wheel off????

well i got a momo woodgrain steering wheel the other week and trying to put it on.
the wheel on the car which i put on about 4-5 months ago is stuck it wont budge.
there are 2 bolt holes in the steering wheel i am going to put a puller on it tomorow and try that but its only alloy so if its on there tight as itll just pull the thread straight out of the wheel wont it?
its really frustrating me as the old wheel which was a red momo came off with just some light taps on each side this one ive nearly pulled the column out of the car it feels like.
i did put loctite on the bolt and it may have gone in the gap but still.
and also with all the thumping my cruise control buttons have disintegrated could i use the ones on the wheel i got they are off an ef i think and instead of being volume on the opposite side of the cruise it says off then on?

mate put the centre bolt back in a touch, grab the steering wheel and throw your whole body back into the seat... it WILL come off after a couple of times.. if it doesnt you're not trying hard enough

hahahahaha that makes me laugh coz i have done it that many times.
even tried to hit it in on all corners with a socket as i thought maybe its not sitting straight on the spline bit and its cocked and wont budge but nope that didnt do anything.
ill try a couple more times.

steering wheel puller wont wreck the steering wheel.
alloy or not, the holes are there to be used.
as tight as you think it may be on, the metal is still stronger than the force holding the wheel.

yeah i was thinking that but wanted to check.
does anyone know if i can use the ef cruise buttons as i dont have any other here and all the buttons have come off.
or does anyone have any they wanna sell?

if u put the puller on, when u tighten it down give it a tap with a hammer (not so u bend it though!) this should break off the loctite, worked for me every time.
dunno bout the buttons though...

yeah ive tapped with a hammer with a socket around the part where the bolts goes so itll crack the whole thing.
ahh well ill get it i might leave it this w/e til i find out bout the buttons.

I dont think EF buttons will work as they're a different setup to AU ones. Do you have an aftermarket headunit?

As someone mentioned earlier, put the bolt back in a touch, then push & pull the wheel using the weight of your body. Repeat this many, many times and it should come off.

On cars I don't care about, I've used a hammer to smash the wheel off, but I don't think it'd be too good for your steering shaft or rack!!

I've got some buttons in good nick you can buy if you want. Just let me know and I'll get a pic for you.

Correct, a CAT09 adaptor will make them work but theyre around $180 - depends on if the buttons are worth that much to you.

Make sure when you take the wheel off you leave the bolt in a bit as has been said or you'll pull the wheel off and it'll go fair into your face.

Everyone always gives this bit of advice... makes me wonder how many people have smashed themselves. Would be funny as to watch

Best way i found to remove steering wheels without the puller is, (two man job) one person pull on the wheel with hands locked straight (obvious reason) then get a steel rod (socket extension) and a hammer and gently tap the actual square bit the bolt goes in and it should come out. Has worked every time for me. Hope it helps. Dunno bout the wheel controls though.

i found my steering wheel was on there really tight, i sat there for around 30 minutes trying to get the thing off, i tryed hitting it with a rubber mallet and everything lol. i gave up and walked away. came back about an hour later to try again and my knee bumped the steering wheel and it just feel off with no effort.

It is funnny but painful. Ive broken my nose pulling a wheel off a car at work.
