Default Is Redbook That Accurate?

dont no if this has been done before. bit i recently checked out redbook for the first time. Looked at my car, and a few others. And it really doesnt seem accurate to looking at the Quakka (a W.A. Buy and sell things paper) or cars guide. Like, it prices a 2002 AU XR8 Series 3 full options 90-125 k on the clock for 12 grand. When they are ussually 17-22 thousand.

heh heh.

no it isnt accurate but on the same note, you wont sell an AU3 XR8 for 22k either.

try drive.com.au
its a bit more accurate than Redbook since it is powered by Glassguide (what the dealers use).

Not really valid comparing a national average to WA prices. Any sort or XR (or equivalent Commy) is dear in WA due to the mining boom & high concentration of blokes with money burning holes in their pockets.

Always seems to price things lower than what it should do.

It's a good guide for buyers, and depressing for sellers.

I've said it a million times B4 and I'll
no doubt say it a million more.
Red Book don't buy cars.
It's an over priced useless piece of crap.

They're all averages.

Best bet is to go off what everyone else is selling them for in the paper/trading post etc.

Red Book, Glass's Guide, they're all pretty similar plus as someone else mentioned, the figures aren't based on per state. Being WA, you would expect a higher resale figure.

heh heh, yeah

I look at Cars Guide, Drive, Car Sales, Trading Post. all are reasonable prices for buyer and seller and all are the same. Had people going on about redbook at work, checked it out and it looked quite incorrect ^_^, just thought id get others opinions on it since i basically checked one page to put my overall judgment on it.

Most accurate is to go on cars guide or similar and do a search for same type cars in your state and see what the going rate is both private and dealer for cars like yours with similar K's.
A car is worth what the market determins just look at gt ho's its certainly not worth what some idiot prints in a book based on national averages and published so they can make a dollar.
