Default Which insurance?

Hi guys, wondering which insurance for full cover I should get for my car..never had insurance before though I guess I've always been lucky, anyhow I would like to be covered in the event of any accidents so I am searching for a reputable insurance mob.

The car 95ef XR6 Manual (unmodded apart from extractors and 2.5' exhorst)
Me: 79 model no accidents or fines yet to date (touch wood)

My partner is with Alliance, but Alliance won't insure my car for me due to the car type and my age!!

So to all of you with the slightly older cars who do you use and are you happy with them?

Cheers

I'm the same model year as you and had a V8 EF comprehensively insured with RACV for 3 years, from when I was 24 to 27. I have now had my BA insured with them for 2 years and have been rating 1 for most of those years (I've never made a claim).

I would have thought 28/29 was old enough for most insurance companies irrespective of car. Does your current third party insurer give you "points" for being previously insured with them? Some companies might not want you because you don't have past comprehensive history.

Oh and my EF was well modded and all of it documented by RACV so I was covered. Mods were extractors & exhaust, lowered, 17" wheels, tint and LPG. Plus it was chipped but I cant remember if I ever told them. I think I did. They used to have a 3 mod max policy when I first insured with them, but it seems to be an anything thats legal is covered deal nowadays.

I know, it totally took me by surprise when the online quote came back declined, as my partners car's more powerful than mine (BA) and he's the same age as me.

I think that my ctp insurance is with RACQ..not sure though, only had the car for about 4-5 months.

i got my car though SGIO for cover all the mods and agreed value too.
You might be worth trying a broker they can look at all companies and get you the best deal. i dont see why you should have so much problem with a 95 made car should be easy

Seems a bit weird that Allianz have a problem with a 29 year old with a clean driving history driving an EF XR6 - I will admit I did an online quote based loosly on your details and got the same message. Perhaps they have a policy of noone under 30 driving "High Performance" vehicles.

Dont be disheartened - if I were you I would try the RAC/NRMA in your state as they are usually very competitive. If you have too many probs shoot me a PM.

Shannons - Maybe

But Definitely give RACV, RACQ, RACSA you get the point they will insure ANYTHING

P.S. I am personally thru CGU but thats because I get a discount thru work....

RACV was by far the most expensive for me... almost double the lowest quote.
Shannons were pretty good, but I ended up going with Ryno - lower excess and 2 year NFO replacement.

I've got a Redback cat back exhaust on an EL XR6 (a very low level mod) and Allianz won't insure me for that reason. If it was stock, I'd save about $200 over Shannons. I'm 34, Rating 1, but live in a crappy suburb (Dandenong Vic). AAMI and RACV were both about $200 more than Shannons for me in a very recent comparison. GIO will charge an additional $400 excess because they deem an E series XR6 to be a sports car. Their premium was nothing special against other insurers - they won't be getting another call from me anytime soon.

i've had nothing but (big) trouble with shannons, was all fine till i made a claim, they're expensive too and their conditions are restrictive and they arent interested in talking about it(in my case anyway)s. have a quote recently from LSV (lumley special vehicles) that is not as restrictive and less than a quarter of what i paid on shannons even after a few years of no claims. in short they suck in my opinion, others seem to have had good experience with them.
i'd try all your regular insurance companies first, your car is not heavily modded or too old for them to touch.

Go to an insurance broker. They'll do all the running around for you and give you the best insurance.

I have found AAMI used to be pretty good, but now seem to have an issue with 25-29 year olds. Even 29yo's with multiple vehicles, all on lifetime rating one! They wouldn't insure my old standard BA XR6 at all. I have had to move my renewals for a year to get around their new 25-29yo premium loadings. Had a non-at fault claim when someone changed lanes into me without looking years ago and all sorted no probs and great repairs.

My brother says that Just Car are pretty good.

AAMI insure my FPV and Impreza good premiums no hassles better price than NRMA and GIO who I have used before. I am older than you that probably helps do your homework and you will save money ...... to spend on mods.
