Default Backflipping bent bananas

On the news today.

Not only has QLD decided that it is now ok to flash oncoming vehicles to warn of radar (as opposed to death penalty twice and then 100 years jail yesterday) but they have decided to publish the location of all the radars on the internet so that people will know they are there and slow down.

Wot tha!!!!!!!

Yes I have checked the date, it is still november and this was not on the Chaser News Network.

Maybe they are trying to save lives instead of revinue raising?

I heard a rumour that the secret melbourne black helicopter hit squad are gearing up to remove this potential fiscal threat to the "The Popular Peoples Democratic Republic of Victoria".

What if it lowers the road toll? OMG. Will Scruby and the Victorian safety camera gestapo have to go out and crash into random motorists to prove they are right?

Stay tuned for the next exciting episode in the adventures of.......

Very interesting. Does anybody know what the fine was for flashing lights to aware other motorists?

WA have just decided to go the other way.

Locations were published, on-line, in newspapers, on radio and on TV (the night before), now, it seems they feel, that this is effecting the toll, so the media are no longer informed of locations.

Lucky this is for our safety and all.

They'll still be raising revenue. They're just going to have to beef up the numbers of they're unmarked patrol cars. I even saw a unmarked VE SV6 utility (purple BTW) cop car trolling the streets of the Gold Coast. They're getting sneakier I tellz ya!

Is the heat getting to them?

Here in SA, the locations are given the previous day and available on the net, but the flashing of lights is still outlawed (I believe).

Are they going to publish the locations of fixed or mobile cameras?

The QPS site has long said that they consider speed cameras more a deterrent than an enforcement device. They're usually in fairly obvious places and there's only been once or twice where they've been sneaky with the speed cameras.

Now cops with radar guns are a different kettle of fish, the bastards are good at hiding behind power poles.

quite funny by chance our cruise meet point for perth falcons cruise yesturday just happend to be where a multi nova was sitting and with our club banner out in full view was making the poor camera operators quota suffer as motorists were slowing to read the banner then going thru the camera slower than before.

ended up getting a visit from the po-po asking "whats doin?" and just turns out that the copper was one of the members brothers win win lol

Both. The mobiles can only be set up in "designated black spots" so they are detailing them via the internet.

Correct, they're published every day in the Advertiser, and on Saturday's they publish Sunday's radars too. Usually if you find one you slow down, because they concentrate them in a specific area on each given day.

Not that you'd have to slow down in the first place . . .

But some officers actually drive up and down the Highway and -shock horror- pull up under trees and behind signs.

In NSW this would be acceptable as most of our 'Highways' are black spots

Doesn't worry me one bit, in anyway.

I don't speed. I don't care.

You could be right.

It's an interesting notion, involving the public in road safety rather than dictating to it. Of course most people won't bother looking up the locations, because they have intention to speed anyway. What it may do though, is relegate the "dob in a radar site" updates on the radio stations and actually increase the numbers caught.

Be interesting to see if going this way works. Although the reduction in revinue raised will probably be offset by the increase of 33% in fines.

- What they published were only 1/2 of the locations.

- Same place as previously, but they will keep them up to date this time

- The list of locations are accessible via the internet

- There are THOUSANDS of them (ie: all possibles, but not necessarily going to be used nd no dates/times).

- They will change EVERY MONTH! But so will the list :-(

So you have to reference them every month and note the places they MAY be at some time on the routes you use (unless you can remember them all)

Lets not loose sight of the fact that they're speed camera's not land mines! its not like you're car will explode if you pass one! so committing to memory every location isnt really necessary....

Looking at the speedo instead of the road could see the same result as driving over a landmine though.

Yeah but the traffic updates are provided by people calling up and reporting them.

Our local (woeful) radio station, hot100, 100.1 FM for anyone wanting to lose some brain cells, in darwin, as well as a couple of other marginally better stations all give an updated, throughout the day heads up service in regards to speed cameras.

The Northern Territory (school)News(letter) also publishes the streets that the cameras will be on.

Though, hey, it's darwin the streets where cameras are lurkin in the back of vans (how come it's illegal for me to get tint as dark as the speed camera toyota vans ?) pretty well stay the same, they prowl the same places constantly.
