Club Rego How old does the car have to be?

Hi guys can anyone tell me how old a car has to be before it can be reg and driven on club reg. I have been told that age is not and issue, And as long as you call you car a classic ( what is a classic ) ? Does this mean if you have a late model car ( GT ) that you rarley drive you could put it on club rego and attend rallies.

Car has to be 30 years old to be a classic,How time flies early XDs are now considered classics.Cheers Justin

Depends on the state. Do a search on your local RTA/DOT website or do a forum search. Or list your location so we have a clue.

fairly sure if its club registered you are only supposed to use it for club days/ cruises etc or if you getting it serviced etc...

the events must be calendered & on your clubs newsletter, the reason I say your clubs newsletter is that club rego is issued & signed off by your car club or you must show that your club has been invited to the event. The club must be approved by Vic roads under the club rego scheme. that is nearly Vic roads only input apart from issuing the plates after the clubs paperwork is done. The club must resign it each year when your renewal arrives

Are you in a car club? If not, then you need to join one. There's a list on the VicRoads website of which clubs have the scheme.
Car must be 25 years old to qualify.
It is a 'permit' - it is not registration
You can drive to and from any club event listed in your clubs calender and if your club is part of AOMC, then any of their events. AOMC is a group of clubs that have these (and other) plates. They host tons of events- all american day, RACV rally etc.

Club Permits
A club permit allows an unregistered vehicle to be used on a highway during the period specified on the permit.

A club permit can be issued to the following vehicles in the following categories:

Veteran vehicles - manufactured before 1 January 1919
Vintage vehicles - manufactured after 31 December 1918 and before 1 January 1931
Classic & Historic vehicles manufactured after 31 December 1930, but more than 25 years before the date of the application for a club permit.

These categories can include trailers and modified vehicles such as street rods. Vehicles which are replicas of vehicles in the above categories may also be issued with a club permit.

A club permit allows vehicles to be used:

*in connection with official activities organised by an association approved by VicRoads, such as car rallies, or in the preparation of the vehicle for such activities; or
*if authorisation for special private use has been granted.

Club Permits are issued for 12 month periods and vehicles are issued with a specific club permit number plate.

Applying for a club permit
To apply for a Club permit you will need to complete a Club Permit Registration form together with:

* written verification by the club secretary (or person authorised by VicRoads) that the applicant for the club permit is a member of the car club
in the case of a club historic vehicle that is not a street rod
* a current certificate of roadworthiness or a letter from a scrutineer authorised by the club, stating that the vehicle is safe for use on the road
in the case of a application made in respect of a street rod, that is a vehicle modified in excess of the level prescribed in the Vehicle Standards Information No.8. (VSI8) document [PDF, 1.06 MB, 6pp.], a Street Rod Inspection certificate issued by the Australian Street Rod Federation (ASRF), Technical Advisory Committee. Club scrutineers can assist in this requirement. ASRF can be contacted by calling (03) 9793 6258.

If your car is overly modified then you may not be eligible.
Cost is around $100 per year.
So, no taking it to and from work, to the pub, shopping, dropping kids off at school etc. Only for club activities and to and from work being done on it.
Penalites are a $500 fine if you are caught doing the wrong thing and the club can lost the ability to have club plates.
They are looking at (and have been for some time) utilising a log book system here in Vic, which currently runs in other states, and allows you to drive it a certain number of times a year - 90 i think they are looking at.
So, for those who want to drive their cars, but really only do on weekends and to events, and are happy to have club plates (usually 4 digits and an "H") on their cars, then it's great.

The other factor is what each club determines you must do. Some make you get a roadworthy annually, others (like one I'm in) make you come to a yearly inspection day at a workshop. Others state you must attend x amount of events a year, or be a member for a certain time before you can get club plates through them.

Benalla Auto club, bendigo, ballarat and albury wodonga car clubs are listed as clubs that have the plate scheme.
