Hi Gerry,
Does it look like this: http://burtonpower.com/technical_1/type_f_gearbox.aspx It's probably a type F if it's an original Capri V6 g/box. Cheers Jamie |

Hi Wogboy, I am just recoing the original v6 box and I got all the bits I needed from Burtons,
Its actually the later gearbox for the v6 (type 5) that you need bits from. The front and rear seals, 4synchros, front, middle and rear bearings, and layshaft needle rollers are as per type 5. You can make up your own gaskets, and the side linkage seals can be had localy. |

+1 for the Supra box here - it's just fantastic behind the V6.

I think what Caprispecial was saying is that the internal parts (bearings, synchros and seals) for a Type 5 box fit the Type F also. The Type 5 box has internal linkages, where the Type F has the external linkages - going by your description your box has external linkages so sounds like a Type F. http://burtonpower.com/technical_1/type_5_gearbox.aspx I've heard that the Supra 5 speed is a good conversion but have not driven one myself. Guys, the gearbox fitted to australian v6 capris was actualy the old zephyr v6 box type 4m I believe.
The type f box was not fitted to v6 engines only engines up to 2 litre. The type 5 box was developed to do away with the side linkages. The input shaft and mainshaft are the same for type 4m and type 5. The only difference is that the type 5 has a taller second gear ratio. So yes the bearings, front and rear seals and all 4 synchro rings are the same. I know this because when my capri was built ford installed all the type 5 gearbox internals into the original type 4m box which is the one I am now recoing. |
