Ive driven everything from a VN V6 manual, to a Carrera 4 manual 997, manuals are more enjoyable to drive full stop end of story, they don't make me HOON any more than in my auto lexus, unfortunately lexus don't make an IS300 in a manual otherwise I would have opted for it. autos are faster down the strip, manuals are quicker around a circuit, but with DSG and the ultimate gayness of CVT's they will be a thing of the past, hell even ferrari don't make it an option on their latest super car :(. OT, driving a manual doesn't make you a better driver, you'd be better off making it mandatory for everyone to get a bike licence that way they would learn that doing makeup/eating breakfast in their cars on the way to work IS a BAD idea as opposed to the norm. but more importantly just get them to do an advanced driver training course and make sure you get a retest every 10 years and then when your 70 every 2 years, if you fail after your 3rd time, you catch the bus for 6 months until your competent.

I hate people who say they have a 'Full' licence yet they can't drive a Manual! As I can drive a manual, do I have an 'Extra full' licence? It's personal preference. I don't wanted to be limited of the car I buy, hire or drive because I can't drive it. If in an emergancy position and only car available was a manual, I know I can drive it.

I agree people who drive manuals, normally know abit more about their car, hence being better drivers, but thats abit of a generalisation. I don't think manual should be compulsory, just the standard of license testing should be raised, also after 21 you should still have to sit for your manual license.
I have my manual license, how does that make me a hoon lol? |

I don't think you should be forced to learn to drive a manual but I whole heartedly endorse if you are driving a manual then you need to be licensed for it.

For give me if i am wrong but as we all worship at the same altar that is: Ford: nearly all the great Fords are manual eg,the the Carroll Shelby fords even to the ledgendary Phase Three HO s If you could buy one, even to the GT 40 WHY would anybody get their licence in a manner that would exclude you from driving one of these classics sorry to these lost people.

This thread has gone to the dogs - eg. drive a manual and you are labled a hoon, I don't think so - drive an auto and you are a girl and lazy, I don't think so, drive a manual and that makes a better driver, I don't think so.
Move on people, I know I am -now where is my semi full licence, I seem to have mis-placed it. |

Heres a newsflash.
I drive trucks for a living, all of them except for 3 of the mercs are manual. They are all non synchro as well, not the pansy slide in at any rpm gearbox most roadusers have. 2 of my 3 cars are Manuals. The only car currently in my possession that is automatic is the XR6T, thats purely because the ZF box is far better then the T56 for drag racing and driving. Super roo you mention all great fords are manual and then the shelby fords which i might say you could get as autos and i'll mention my favorite falcon the XW GT 428 cobra jet bill bourke which was an auto.
From what ive read here all a manual licence dose is makes you full of yourself.

I dont think it should be mandatory, some people on our roads seem to struggle with an auto, can you imagine them in a manual? no thanks!
I think its just personal choice really, i've had 3 Manuals and 2 autos, both have the pros and cons, just depends on what you use the car for and if you can use a manual box lol

computer geek my typing skills are not as good as younger members who are used to computers if you will forgive my typo errors in the future and just think for a minute at least i was lucky enough to drive all the cars in the 70s that were worthwhile driving when they were nearly brand new. P.S I have not had an alcoholic drink in 23 years. Super roo. |

1966 shelby gt.350 saw the introduction of non-white colors — including blue, red, green and black. Other changes include special quarter-panel windows replacing the factory extractor vents, functional brake scoops on each side and optional automatic transmissions, as well as the addition of an optional Paxton supercharger.
the 428 was a one off factory special it was sent to the usa and built but it still had an auto

you said shelby fords there called Cobra's buy staiting shelby fords you are implying all shelby fords not just the cobra witch you are right but they were basicly race cars for the road.
key lesson here be specific there are took main known shelby the cobra and the mustang.

I'd go further... if you can't pass a test on a wet skid pan, which includes emergency braking, car control etc, you shouldn't have a license. Secondly, if you can't maintain your car (simple things like tyre inflation, tyre tread, rust) you should lose your license. No ifs,no buts.

I'd love retesting every year for everyone but as it is now, VicRoads is booked out 2 months + for a driving test with just new drivers going for the test. Imagine with everyone going every year, the booking would be 5 years in advance. |
