hey thinkin of buying a escort mk2, is it possible to fit a v8 in the bays? was hoping for a 5l winsor but could go smaller. has any one done it before or know any one or any links to someone who has?

Search for MD Conversions. They made a few of them before the govt outlawed them lol. Not sure about SA but you can't register them in nsw anymore. Largest engine you could fit there legally in nsw is 3L n/a or 2.5 s/c or turbo. If that helps

Yes, I remember a white RS2000 with the NSW plates - DMT351. It had a 351 in it. A fair bit of work required to the engine bay sheet metal.
Also the NSW branch on the Small Ford Car Club have a member with a White replica RS2000 with a V8. Contact Roy Rogers for more details if required. |

MD conversion fitted clevelands
and they were also blown burnout cars so a windsor will fit much better |

In WA we have the worst laws for any and everything anything not factory ! But even hear the 'tec sec' run by reno markise say's going from 4cyl to 6 cyl is ok with approval,brake up grade ect ect, but going from 4 cyl to 8cyl would never be regoed hear in good old "Wait Awhile"
any one know whats the story for tassie ? mine is a 1959 P/Van |

I was told that if u V8 it u will have fun in a straight line buy nothing else, turning, stoping and ride.... GONE !

: To get a v8 into an escort you need to find an engineer that will allow you to put an escort body on a chassis of a vehicle of similar size but with a weight over 1100kgs like a japanese ute.

cant the frame and chassis of the escort be modified then stress and twist tested to be engineer aproved?

RTA rules go off original weight of the vehicle so it doesn't matter what you do to an escort unless you make it a rebodied car. At least thats the NSW rules

had a 460 big block in a mk2 ...why? coz they said it wouldn't fit : ...although did have to make it left hand drive because of where the starter motor sits .Also had to hand make extractors. In all its not a 5 minute job but it does make for a fun car . As far as i know 302 as big as they will engineer for road use, unles you go for (VIC) street rod rego .

Mine was only ever built for fun ,never ment to see the road .Street rod rego doesn't require engineers reports but does involve you being able to join a street rod club and each drive has to be log booked. you will need to find out your local requirements (SA) but in vic its stock 302 , no extractors , 2 barrel carb and no engine mods for engineering . also body has to be seam welded , different engineers will have different requiements as far as cross members , brakes etc but seen as they are the ones putting their names on the certificate to say its safe then i guess thats understandable . i think if i was goin to do one for road use i'd try to track down a rover v8 as theyre all alloy , small , light weight , rev hard and because theyre only 3.6 litres should require less for a report(maybe). So first thing first , find and talk to an engineer or 2

Not sure if they have Street Rod rego in SA, and their car club/historic rego is for standard-ish cars only, so you will be looking at normal full reg.
Saw a 302 Escort at Hanging Rock on the weekend, it had a custom firewall (heater pod removed) bivo - why not make a trip to Regency to ask your questions? |

Bivo - I understand that is where all the tech guys are based so they ought to have the answers and requirements. If not they ought to at least direct you to the right place. If you have an approved engineer I'm sure they would know the ins & outs too.

I think he means P76 V8. Could also go Rover V8 (the P76 is a larger version of this)
