Default Problem at the bowser.

Hi,

I have a problem when putting petrol into my AU1 where the fuel wont flow continuously, the trigger on the bowser handle keeps clicking when trying to fill up at every garage. Very frustrating.

thanks.

try positioning the nozzle back a bit, change the tilt.. sounds like youre getting splashback and the fuel sender unit thinks your tank it full.

Don't push the nozzle all the way in, have it just a bit inside the hole.

Also look in the tank opening, you should have a flap (looks like a trap door) covering the opening that opens inwards when the nozzle is place in the tank. Sometimes this can come off and sit further down the tank opening causing this problem.

I have this problem just about every time I fill up, usually if I 'just' push the flap in, then start to fill its ok

I never have a problem when I fill up. But then mine's LPG.

Try jiggling the petrol nozzle around a bit and have it sitting just out (ie not all the way in).

IIRC Falcons have an S-bend at the start of the tube going into the fuel tank...

Turn the pump nozzle on a 45 deg angle next time you fill up, I've never had any problems with splashback doing this.....

Seen this thousands of times managing servos, what I do is put it in the whole way, with some slight down pressure, then pull it out a little and wait for the nozzle to drop down. As soon as that happens, it should be in the optimum angle for a full fill.

Sounds like a dopey way, but sometimes it's hard to picture, and this is usually the easiest way of describing it.

Mine only does that at one servo near me, all others are fine. I found rapidly 'pumping' the trigger repeatedly gets it to work, but as I said, thats only at this one servo.

Mine had the same problem filling at all pumps. It started off doing it only only a few but got worse over time. The problem is with a little flap that Ford have fitted to the filler socket. It breaks off after a few years and catches in the filler tube, then the filling problem starts as the petrol back pressures trying to get past it. I used a piece of coat hanger wire with the end tightly bent over to hook the flap and then pull it up to the top of the filler socket. Onse you can see the flap, I used a pair of needle nose pliers (long nose should do it ok) and removed the flap. The car now fills to full without cutting off the bowser at all.

I have tried not inserting the nozzle to far in, turning it in on an angle, still not working.

It is a fault with the anti siphoning flap in the top of the fill tube. My TE50 had the same problem ,it took ages to get a few bucks in . Search the T series room,I am sure there is something in there about it.
I had ford fix mine under used car warranty.

I suggest you get a wider selection of DVDs then. There is a forum for discussing non-Ford related matters elsewhere .
