Looks like I'll be driving the Fairmont again for a few months after maiming my new found love.

Time for some maintenance so first things first, my front windows seem to be fond of going sideways up the door and stopping..common problem? What is actually causing this and is it an easy fix? the drivers window also comes out of the winder assembly in the door and won't go down but i guess thats an easy fix.

Also the cluster seems stuffed, Sometimes yhe oil pressure will drop while the car is idling to almost 0 but picks up with revs and when driving, if the pressure is staying good then the alternator light will be on with the volts higher than normal. It seems to change between the two every now and then. Sounds like an electrical issue and not the oil pump and alternator on their way out?

apparently untouched..was a 4wd and only just missed the rails. Still a fair bit of damage, air bag, front and rear window (hardcover punched the rear window) and what you can see at the front. It'll be damn close IMO. See what they say.

The windows sit in two white plastic channels/holders. Over time the silicone or adhesive gets old and the glass works free.

You pull off the door trim, and have the windows wound up. You hold tightly to the glass, whilst someone else winds the window down. With the door open, you simply have one hand each side of the glass. This will get the glass free. DON'T let go of the glass though, as it will drop down, possibly braking it!

Next, clean out the channels/holders as best you can. Apply the relevant sikaflex product to the channels and then gently lower the glass back down into the door, until it nicely sits back correctly in the newly glued channels/holders. Note - If you don't trust the mate helping you to apply the relevant amount of adhesive, or to clean out the channels properly, get him/her to hold the glass! I got the good lady wife to do it!

Let it set for the required time, I allowed a full 24 hours before using the window again.

I used this method in September on the front passenger window on the old AU wagon and haven't had a problem since.

Before going to all this trouble, get some silicon spray lube and spray it into the upright channels the window runs in. Up and down, don't be shy. Wind the window whilst doing it. Guaranteed fix in 3 minutes! Do them every 6 months, no drama's!
