We had one time that a servo who had decided that they didn't like a particular bank and refused to accept any cards from that bank. They wouldn't let us leave collateral and go and find an atm (there was no atm in the servo). There was no signage that they were not accepting cards from this particular bank. This I find abhorrent, needless to say we've never gone there again for petrol.

I currently work at BP. We don't experience many drive offs, but we do get a lot of people coming in with the old, oh, did my card just decline, it shouldn't of, i have money in there. I am sick of it. Some people say that we aren't allowed to take anything off u but your wrong. We take anything we can get, i have even made a guy take a head unit out of his car because he said he had nothing to leave. Tools, spare wheels, stereo's CD's, phones and lots lots more are sitting in our servo, because they don't bother to come back. Funny thing is, they will kick up a stink because we are taking something off them, but they never come back for it.
Just the other day i went through 300 non payments not drive offs, but non payments, where we have there details, and that was only in the past 2 years that my boss has owned this site!!!

You think this is bad, I just found at that at certain stores when it's a busy time, people come in and try on shoes, swap their old cruddy ones for the new ones, put them in the box, and walk out in a new pair of shoes. Amazing what some people will do.

People will try to steal whatever they can.
At work we have lists of people that are not to have refunds given to them. They come into one store, steal a bunch of stuff, then go elsewhere and try to get refunds. One time I saw a woman pick up a reciept from outside our store, read it, then go in and get all the things on the list. I knew she was either going to try to pretend it was hers, already paid for, but that she forgot something and came back in, or she was going to say she didn't need them anymore and wanted a refund. She went for the refund, I told the store manager and she was escorted from the store.

Scumbags are everywhere, a friend of mine used to work at a servo on the federal highway, they get a few driveoffs every week. My friend happened to be working when some moron in a black supra filled up with premium and sodded off. No respect.

Either way, it's us, the honest ones that suffer! Either by paying more, or inconvenience.

Didn't have enough in my card to pay for the fuel once, so I called my stepmum and she did a transfer online to my card, so I walked back in and was able to pay straight away! (it was ANZ to ANZ - instantaneus transfers)

Cheap AU: The station i'm at is only open 16 hours a day, it has not been robbed while open once. We've had two break in since i've been there (2 years) since those we have had security shutters put up and the cigarette shelves locked down with 5mm thick steel plates. The old site my boss worked at was robbed a couple of times, knives/gun/syringe... all the ones he can recall have occured during the darker hours. |

As long as you do what they demand, you should be ok, but if it's something that really worries you, I suggest not considering it as a line of work.

the more the fuel prices go up the more likely fuel stealing will happen..
only thing petrol stations can do is enforce PRE PAY for fuel that in itself would be costly and too hard to manage and thus why petrol stealing will continue.. ppl stealing shouldnt be punishing servo's they get jack crap outta fuel as it is its the goverment and petrol refineries they should vent their displeasure at.. |
