GPS to find your stolen vehicle

A TRUCK owner has used a global positioning system to track down a man who allegedly stole a truck towing a trailer and bobcat.

The owner led police to the Munno Para West man, 28, using the truck's GPS after it was allegedly stolen from a building site at Elizabeth West.

The investigation is expected to widen after police found the bobcat, which had been detached from the truck, at a business property at Research Road, Pooraka.

"The stolen bobcat was no longer with the truck and trailer but, through the GPS, the owner was then able to backtrack the areas the truck had been and stopped," a police spokesman said.

"Enquires are continuing in regards to further suspects and other stolen vehicles."

The truck, trailer and bobcat were allegedly stolen from a building site at Kingstag Crt, Elizabeth West, and police were notified about 7.30pm.

Police arrested the Munno Para West man at Salisbury South and recovered the truck and trailer.

He was bailed to appear in Elizabeth Magistrates Court.

Similar thing happened here in WA when armed men broke into a house late at night and demanded the keys for a Mustang. The Mustang was tracked to a business premises. Sound likes a good investment for your pride and joy.

apparently though, from reading other threads on here about muscle cars being stolen from shows, etc you can get a little thing you plug into the cigarette lighter that jams the gps signal, so all the tracking devices in the world won't help you then...

for the small time guys though, it will definitely help you track down your car

Anyone got any experience with this sort of gear? Wouldn't mind buying one if the cost isn't all that expensive. Are they available on ebay?

I have left my i device in the car before and tracked it's location, so I can see where it is at all times, I can do the same thing to the missus too LOL

I'm thinking about getting one of them windscreen cameras with gps in built, might check these things out too

Got a similar thing on my phone, tracks your car movements through your phone (assuming it's inside). Another neat trick is if you loose your phone you can see where it is, and if in doubt, remote wipe it. Handy

you can buy these kits on ebay. install a prepaid sim card and get a message sent to your phone and can see where it is on google maps.

Google it and all sorts of photos and videos of thieves are being posted on the web!

Only trouble with smaller items is that the police often can't be bothered to chase it up even though I would have thought catching a thief was more important than the value of one item the thief has stolen (could be one of many).

The best of these in the world are actually an Australian designed and manufactured unit made here in ingleburn NSW by a company called Rojane . They are the only ones on the market using the voice ( NOT messaage ) network thus guaranteeing instant delivery of a message . They're called EZITRAK and will set you back $ 1,000.00 plus installation . And the plug in thing in the cigarette lighter will not immobilise them .

Similar thing happened in Brissie.... One of my customers trucks was at a repair shop (little Isuzu) people broke in couldn't get the Businesses truck to go so the loaded up the Isuzu with the toolboxes etc and off they went.... Next morning John gets a call (sunday morning) to say that his trucks been stolen and probably won't be seeing it again because they don't have anything to go on. John says to the officer in charge, come and have a look at my laptop here and I will tell you where my truck is..... Long story short, officers turn up at the criminals home and catch 3 guys unloading stolen toolboxes + a shed full of other stolen booty.

Happy ending + Johns truck had no petrol in it when the stole it so they filled it up on the way home.... Thanks criminals.
