Guys,
the ops come up to buy an S13 for next to nothing...un rwc and un regoed. N/A model obviously... What do people know about them? I know nothing about them at all...I was thinking of buying it as a bit of a toy and doing it up over time (always had a soft spot for them) Contacting the seller today to find out more about it...what motor does it have, k's, roughly whats needed to bring it up to scratch, etc. Here are the pics of it.

It looks like a CA18DE. Being auto as well it will be painfully slow. Unless you want to spend big money on it as a project car I wouldnt bother...

For "Next to nothing" I'd go for it. Even with an auto they're a nice drive, and it's not like SR20's and a five speed from importers are expensive nowadays...they're everywhere. They're very well balanced and have a great chassis, even standard, but are just ripe for mods. Very reliable. and still a good looking car.

If its cheap enough grab it. There are so many options with these things especially engine wise, you can get alot of engines to fit and there are conversion kits to fit almost anything from sr20's to LS1's. Yes you could get a falcon but if you want it for a project and you like them grab it.

Sorry the inner drifter in me will say get it. Coilovers, manual, locked diff and CA turbo & Drift pig it.
CA or SR is the big question. RB's will fit if you keen for hp or JZ's.

Well can also get hold of a damaged R33 for a bit over 500...Good RB25 and full driveline in tact.

Auto and CA18 = Worst combo for a S13. IMO.
ED all the way for me mate. Maybe if it was a SR20 Manual. But if its a project anything can be done to it. I would pay more than $500 bucks for it. |

interestingly, i've been looking at these recently. I'm trawling for something cheap and RWC... Hard to find! Not much out there decent under $5k.
I like the look of the S14 200sx or the R33 GTST. Hard to find one that's reasonably unmolested though...

If you could get the r33 and the s13 and fit the r33 driveline in the s13. you will have a very fun car.

it's probably ok as long as it hasn't had too much modifications done. I'd stay away from 'boy racer' versions and get one that's close to stock. then you can mod it as you like.

Good thing you didn't get it. Buying a silvia I would go manual at the very least on top of that wouldn't of been that fun with a NA SR20. Although putting a RB25 in it would of been awesome

Good choice really not getting it, CA N/A auto is a real slouch.
Whats worse is the brakes are tiny (even compared to the SR20 ones), driveline is pretty pathetic to so if you did put a turbo motor in it you would have to rob another car for diff/gearbox axles etc I bet if you had a good look under that car the rails would be an abortion and it would be full of rust. Having had an RB25 silvia which started life as a CA Turbo Auto, its not as easy as it sounds, everything has to be upgraded to get it engineered. Not much off the shelf bits fit either. To be honest an RB20 R32 is a far superior car. |

S13's aren't bad cars at all.
SR20 and manual conversion can be done for under 2k and then they're a real fun car to drive. Try www.nissansilvia.com for a less biased more educated opinion. |

Don't bother dude.
My mates all have them, and unless you're going to strap a disco potato onto it sooner rather than later, you're just going to have a troublesome slug. The Auto's espescially. They're slow enough as a manual. I'd probably steer clear, unless it's for.. under 200 bucks and you're planning on overhauling the thing.. eg; Manual, CA18, SR20 etc.. If nothing else, buy it on the cheap, and strip it down, strap a turbo engine and a manual gearbox in there (kits are always available..) And just take it to a track, or skidpan and have some fun on a lazy sunday afternoon.. Having said that though, You can pick up S15's for under 20k.. With a beefed up LSD, Gearbox, and all the turbo work done.. Also, a lot newer, less k's, and better condition.. You just have to weight up the cost. Edit: Posted before :P Ford for life? |

Buy it, if its less than $1500, clean it up and re-sell it. P-platers love them and the prices are quite expensive for NA Silvias. Infact in some cases the non-turbos are more expensive.
You shouldn't have a problem selling it if you park it around a big highschool with signs for sale.

I'm not sure if it's a dying fad, but 2 years ago atleast, it seemed as if every kid under the sun wanted one regardless of how derelict they looked.

The car doesnt have rego plates, so I guess the first question that comes into my head is, Is it a private import, most likely answer looking at it is yes, next question is, is it COMPLIANCED? I dare say if it's selling for next to nothing the answer would be no.
For that reason alone I would stay away, looking at the condition and the fact it's N/A makes it not worth compliancing. Unless of course it's going to be a Track car, but it would need a LOT of cash to get it sorted for any competitve racing. |
