Toyota are offering fixed priced servicing now with others following suit .
I would imagine discount cards similar to what Southside Ford offered will become the normal thing. Its all about Loyalty to the brand and keeping contact. Do many of you receive the Ford magazine, their emails and participate in their surveys ? I do , to give them feedback about issues like the ones we discuss here.

It must be frustrating to have to quote pricing you know will not win the business. Imagine if you knew what an item cost and you could get $1100 starter motor down to the market price .( say $600 ) A part that is perceived as genuine , you would win the sale exery time.

it`s not all bad at ford parts, sometimes you go in expecting to hand over a limb for a complex part only to be shocked by a good price, difficult to understand pricing at times, ford actually seems way better than some brands, my young brother, toyota bloke, often freaks me out with their part prices.

Here i was thinking that $900 odd for a genuine radiator for my 97 GQ was a fair price
Yep for a thin as cardboard alloy cored/plastic header tanks radiator,oh and the best part waiting 4-6 weeks for it Natrad ,of the shelf copper core/steel header tanks under $500 With most newish cars getting aftermarket rims fitted fairly soon after buying,im surprised getting a set of factory rims/mags shouldnt be an issue |

Some stuff i agree is overboard, but some i can justify
The clips been $3 to $4 live with it, the amount of time someone at the department has to spend when someone comes in wanting 2 clips, doing them for $1 ect is not gonna cut it End of the day the ford parts man will get his *** grilled by a manager cause the dealer principle has grilled his if stuf goes out with no margin in it The ford/mazda thing has been going on since day dot basically, still happens these days but not as much Kia label on parts box is still seen, end of the day its a rebadged kia, vin number is even kia As for over the board prices on stuff, some stuff in stock is years and years old, it has seen inflation, rises ect. Yes it will die with ford out there but yeah its one of those things, you can never compete with cheaply made/imported stuff. |

It's hardly a new phenomenon...way back in the late seventies one motoring group...possibly the RACQ...compared the price of a standard Kingswood sedan (around the $4000 mark at the time I believe), and added up the total price of building it from spare parts bought over the counter...this was in the days when you could actually buy a bare body shell from a dealer through the manufacturer. It came out to something like three or four times the price of the whole car.

I don't spend too much time pondering why a part is priced like it is, I sell it so I can get paid, any soul searching can be done by someone else.
The bottom line, if you don't like it, buy your stuff elsewhere? One other thing, Mazda/Ford parts, you buy Ford parts, put them on a Mazda then try getting warranty coverage when they fail |

Ford are reasonable. Try owning a modern Euro where an alternator is $2000, 1x 19" rim $1600, low beam NON-xenon globe $115
