Two completely different companies that just both happen to be in Korea...

Where one is owned by the other and use the same powertrains, electronics and vehicle platforms.

rather interesting that the quite expensive motor cars bottom half of the page are the least reliable.

The biggest surprise for me was Porsche being in 34th place. That is very poor from a company selling $200k+ cars. There must be some systemic quality problem for a car company to be rated so badly.

Really suprised me as a lot of previous quality results i've seen, including the JD Power ones, has Porsche near the top.

Regarding the higher priced brands being near the bottom, is it a case of higher complexity of their products, or customers expecting more from their purchase than someone who paid considerably less for their car from the cheaper brands.

Last year, the 911 was awarded the most reliable model in one of the US surveys. Go figure, you'd be better off trusting a politician than these inconsistent surveys.

You need to look at who they were surveying. The UK one, I understand, comes from statistics of warranty providers and (I think) the repair industry. It's not one of those surveys where the whimsical public gets to have a throwaway whinge - the input is a bit more professional.

I remember a rare Australian industry one released a few years ago found that the warranty/repair industry rated VWs poorly on reliability but the owners were generally satisfied - it was commented that owners didn't want to admit that their "quality" European purchase was problematic!

I can't imagine the average Porsche owner admitting their car was a dud!

Like most things from the UK, what a useless comparison.

If you notice the score is derived by a function of the frequency of the failure and the COST of repair. So the top cars are all cheap cars, not necessarily becauase they are more reliable but becauser they are cheap to repair.

I'd prefer to know which car is more likely to leave me standing on the side of the road. I think I can gather that if I drive a Porsche, BMW, Merc it may be more expensive to fix than a Kia or Hyundai.

don`t think so , a lot of it is the law of averages, the more gadgets and complex the machinery the more likely to have problems, look at these dsg gearboxes in many different brands, not to mention electronic woes that plague many modern cars.

Well this is it.

Hypothetically the Roller blows a headlight once a year that costs 34K to replace but the kia blows a head gasket three times a year that costs say 1,500 to repair, by virtue of the flawed scoring system the Kia is rated more reliable than the Roller Ridiculous.
