Default Overseas forum members

I've just started my fifth year living and working overseas. Spent four years in Singapore and have just recently moved onto my next project assignment in Bangkok.
My car is in Perth. Only drive it every few months when I'm back visiting family.
I jump on the forum a couple times a day to get my fix of Aussie Fords. Only way I keep sane!

Anyways, I'm just curious to know how many other forum members are based overseas, either as Aussie expats or from other countries who have taken an interest in Australian fords.

Cheers, Joe.

I would jump on daily as well. One of the things that kept me sane whilst I was away from family and loved ones.

I like the discussions on here, sure it's fun to keep up on the Falcon, but I come here because unlike other forums, people here appreciate variety.

What line of work were you in?
Assume you were there for work?

Yeah, it's a pretty good forum actually.
Is the Falcon well known in the USA?

Hi Guys,

I am base din London and have been since 2003. I am on reading every other day. I have my project Capri that I am working on back home in Brisbane in the old mans garage. A long way to go to turn a spanner on it that is for sure.

When I return I will finish it.

Hopefully only a year and a half to go until we move back to Oz.

Worked in Regulatory Risk for a couple of Major Investment Banks

Then moved into Risk based projects work (Basel II systems design & implementation)

Moved back to Oz and stayed in the same line of work up until four months ago. Ejected out of banking/projects/corporate and have moved back to my Chartered Accounting roots - tax and business services)

I had 2 stints in Brunei from 1993 to 2000 and 2004 to 2009. We returned to Sydney at the end of 2009. I got my GTP in 2003 and kept it in storage only driving it when I came to Sydney every 3 to 4 months or so. Still go back to Brunei every 6 months or so to help tidy up some loose ends on a Navy Base project.

I made many trips to Singapore from Brunei as the majority of materials for our projects, I worked for an Electrical Contractor (even though I'm a Mechanical Engineer!), came through Singapore and we had a lot of testing done there before shipping to Brunei.

I used to jump on to the Forums regularly while there, particularly leading up to new model releases.

Awesome.... another accountant who's into old school muscle

I have the urge to move away from where I am into risk management and there appears to be alot of opportunities abroad, which are tempting me.

Alot like everyone else, I eat food.

In order of living countries... it was as follows.

1995 Australia -> London, to 1 year on Cruiseliners, to Azerbaijan, to Ireland, to Hong Kong, to Malaysia, to Hong Kong, to Bangkok, to China, to South Africa, to Hong Kong.

As you can see, Hong Kong pulls me back..... but I think it's all about to come to an end....... which is a good and a bad thing I suppose.

HK is a great place!
I have a number of colleagues who have ended up back in HK after stints elsewhere.

You've been out of Oz a while now, longer than the normal expat stint. With a car collection like the one you've got I can't believe you stayed away so long and can understand why you want to get back.

When I first left, I was prepared to do 5 years away. But SE Asia is so strong at the moment... and Australia not so... That I feel compelled to stay away longer. Time will tell I guess.

After taking the plunge myself, I can't recommend it highly enough. Both my personal and career development has exceeded anything I could have ever imagined staying in Australia.
For anyone seriously considering working abroad, I say go for it!

Default Expat AFF Members

I work in New Guinea, Southern Highlands on a 4 / 2 rotation and get on the AFF numerous times during the day depending what I am doing. We work 80 hours a week whilst onsite so its good to take some time out and see what people are up to.

Access at night isn't always available due to limited Internet access at the camp.

I enjoy real project car, ie cars that actually have all the panels unbolted and stripped down to nothing and start again, Like George, Luke and many others on the AFF site.

These guys keep me motivated and thinking and scheming for my own projects
