Hi guys,
Thinking of potentially buying a 4 wheeler for a bit of fun on the weekends. Cannot seem to find any info. on Vic roads website in regards to recreational rego. for an ATV/4 Wheeler. Only has it there for motorcycles with no apparent references to 4 wheelers. Is there any where to ride it, legally, in VIC, without recreational rego - other than a private farm etc that I own/family owns, as I don't know anyone like that. Thanks! |

Friends of ours go to the lake near Heyfield for Quad riding. They are also in a Quad riders club. I can ask them exactly where in Heyfield they go if you like.

Where they ride is a well known quad area...but I am not sure where exactly it is. They are not on recreational rego that I am aware of but will check on Tuesday when I see them

Check them out on bikepoint, ebay & the rest. heaps of them are nearly new because people buy them and not long after discover there is no where to go...shame really, there is nothing more fun than doing doughnuts on a solid axle quad.

That's ridiculous! You should be allowed to ride them in the state forests! Well one thing I like about Idaho, is I can ride my Sportsman Touring 850 to the (petrol) station from my house, then ride up the mountains from here. I can't ride it downtown or on a highway though, even though it will happily do 80 mph! You guys need to fight the nanny government, cos I would like to come back over and go four wheeling. My dad (in Australia) also has a Polaris, which he loves, but can't friggen take the thing anywhere.

Take it up my way in the Macedon Ranges, plenty of open deserted trails where you wont bother people. Cherokee would be a good place to go.

We used to ride up in state forests near Gormandale(back of Traralgon). There was about 4-5 of us riding on most days, never got hassled by anyone, locals didnt seem to mind if we werent ripping up stuff.
Its mostly pine forest plantations, It was great fun. I was always a 2 wheel rider but I loved the feeling of sliding around everywhere at huge angles on the quad.

They will never get rec reg, I can only see riding becoming more restricted for two wheels as well. Cant see them letting another form of rec riding in. |

again, you can ride it plenty of places and plenty of clubs etc ride around, but if you get busted in VIC, there are BIG fines involved. All these laws make me want to move out of VIC. Blah.

We were a bit worried about the fines but the chance of us all getting done was not likely so we just had a agreement that whoever got the fine we all payed for.
Its just not fair that 2 wheelers can have rec reg yet a 4 wheeler cant.
