I can remember many yrs ago a co-worker had come off his trail bike on bitumen and came to work with his legs all bandaged up. We all bagged him... A few months later he did it again... and again he wasnt wearing any protective gear. We bagged him even more...

I didnt think anyone with half a brain would need a reminder to wear the right gear.
Idiots like this are called "Temporary Citizens" for a reason. |

lol, i wear shorts on my bike all the time.
i dont consider myself stupid, but i am fully aware of the risks involved in it. but damned if im going to ride assuming the worst is going to happen all the time. |

The problem is Australia can be a bloody hot place. When you are sitting in traffic all leathered up on a hot summers day sweating your **** off then you will know why people ride like this.

if im going on the motorway or a decent ride then im wearing pproper gear, but if im just commuting or going for a toddle up to the shops then its just helmet jacket and gloves. i see plenty of cyclists on the roads, often getting up to similar speeds to motorised traffic. pretty sure lycra isnt as effective as leather. |

... right after he came down from his 'fullysick' mono
Mate of mine had a bike merge into him on the highway, rider was in shorts and a t-shirt... he didn't bleed for quite a while, apparently his hands and knees were just ground down to 'white'. Lived to tell the tale too and acuse my mate of running him down... the nerve. |

Many years ago attended a MVA in which a female dressed in a bikini, riding her Ducati 900 SS laid it down rather than t-bone a car (car's fault).
She only had light gravel rash, unfortunately it covered about 80% of her body, including breasts, butt, abdo and back. We treated her as a burns victim and enroute to the hospital she asked what will happen. As I had come off my M/C three months previous I told her they will clean it with a scrubbing brush. I showed her my almost new shoulder and knee and she was happy with the results. End result - she went to theatre and had the abrasions cleaned under a light anesthetic. I would see her every now and again and always with leathers - made her look even hotter!
