Have shipping costs increased?

Just ordered a radiator for the Mustang today from RockAuto in Wisconsin. And I thought the near $200 shipping cost seemed alot more than previous times I have made purchaeses from the States. Even with this I still saved near on $700 in comparison to the cost of buying one in AUS. So I was thinking if anyone else has noticed this and is this just a case of organisations trying to make up some extra cash because they a losing money compared to years passed on international transanctions because of the Aussie$.

Umm is it being sent the same way as previously? same shipping company?

I cant see how they are loosing money because of the high aussie dollar... if their product is $700US (as an example), then thats what they get. High or low aussie dollar doesnt impact them... only you the buyer.

I think they have changed to FedEX I'm pretty sure it used to be US Postal.

And just realised My logic made no sense was us paying more but they are getting the same dollar value "OOPS".

I've noticed the shipping prices can be absolute scams sometimes.

I just bought a TPS from blue oval industries and when I calculated the shipping cost it came up as $145 to send it here, for a tiny little TPS that can fit in a small jiffy bag.

Luckily I have friends in the US so I got it sent to their house in MA for free, and they can forward it on to me for like $10.

For $145 postage are they going to send it via space shuttle or something, or in a plane made of gold?

I have had extreme quotes from the USA... ranging from the cheap to the rediculas.

Sadly i really believe most US sellers on eBay dont realise they have a US postal service or have a clue how to use it.

A lot of people always use DHL express (No idea why when i dont need it NOW) and INSIST that is the only way they can send it, despite the item being small enough to be sent via the post.

FED Ex seem to be a bit more reasonable with their freight charges, but again a lot of US sellers/ companies seem to think its ok to insist of using the most EXPENSIVE way to send an item..

USPS is the cheapest by far IMHO

However, rates ramp up when using DHL express and Fedex where functionality for tracking is required

I have purchased 15 diff items in the last mth from the states so I feel your pain!

Can depend on the supplier. I ordered a pair of hood springs ($34) from a USA supplier and they quoted $100 shipping. I asked why and they said they use UPS express. I said I don't want that service, as far as I was concerned they could strap them to a back-packer and get them here when ever. They stood fast, so as I was going over anyway I had them sent to where I was staying ... cost ... $10.

I've had good experiences with USPS, FedEX and UPS, UPS seems to be the best, had stuff come to my door after 5 days of clicking the finalise order button.

Why do they lose with the Aussie Dollar? If they sell something for $100US, it's $100US whether they get it from you or from some local guy!

When I buy from the US I shop for the best postage price there are vast differences from supplier to supplier.

My dad just recieved a 1:24 scale Marcos Ambrose Nascar model car, postage on the box to send from the US to here was $19.95 from USPS so thats a pretty good price. Personally signed by Marcos too.

I don't know if its new but volume calculations for shipping instead of weight can pump up the cost. A radiator especially if packed in foam and a thick carton would probably cost more based on its bulk.

That's probably why it's more expensive, from my experience FedEx has always been a lot more expensive than USPS.

USPS still isn't cheap, compared to auspost anyway.
I just bought a second hand (3k miles) Mustang GT500 twin throttle body for $25 plus postage ($40). Still better than the asking rate of $425 for the T/B here in Aus I guess.

The rates are accessible on the USPS website, I found it best to use their flat-rate boxes.

I thought that anything posted with USPS in the USA will be handed over to Aust. Post once it reaches Australia, while FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc handle it the whole way.
So, to us, USPS is the same as using Aust Post.
Is that right?

Yes it is handled by auspost when it gets here, but they are totally different companies.
Stuff via EMS from china is handled by auspost too.
