Hi all,
I think this might be a common issue in AUs as I saw it mentioned in one of those "what to look out for when buying an AU" threads, but I cant for the life of me find any info on it. The issue is that the steering wheel is able to move up and down, its only about 2-4mm either direction but it means that bumps in the road are transmitted through it. Is the fix as simple as replacing a worn part? Cheers

Does it only happen when the car's in motion? Do you have any play in the steering wheel? (ie: steering wheel turns a fraction but doesnt move the car)

There isn't excessive play, what I would imagine is normal.
The steering wheel can be lifted up and down slightly when the car isn't moving.

bearing in the high end of the steering column kaput?
Edit: thinking about it, mines got a few k`s on it 200,xxx + k`s and it`s still tight as bell, it occurs to me something that has come loose sounds more likely?be interested to hear what you find. Last edited by mik; 17-11-2012 at 12:08 PM. |
