How can you be operating at 114% of your capacity?
100% is everything you got, so how can you have an extra 14% on top? |

think about what your saying. 100% is when at full NORMAL operating speeds. Now if they decide to run things like extra weekends, double shifts and contractors....then this is how you run at more then 100%.
Even tho you ask 100% from your car when you give 100% throttle...you can still set it up to go faster ....it has the ability |

It seems that the regular capacity is calculated on each plant running twin shifts.
Understandable then with a growing number of plants on 3 shifts and a handful on single shifts or under renovation. |

I thought they would calculate it on how many cars their equipment and staff would be capable of churning out over a set period.
Fair enough. |

Well that would live up to the term capacity more accurately, but I guess there's different ways they spin it.

Some sources indicate this is how plants are running: Michigan Assy Plant (new Focus side) at 3 shifts Detroit Truck Plant at 3 shifts Louisville Assy Plant at 3 shifts Kentucky Assy Plant at 3 shifts Chicago Assy Plant at 3 shifts Kansas City Assy Plant (F150 side) is at least 2 shifts (though this is suppose to go to 3 I think) Kansas City Assy Plant (Transit side) under renovations, will probably be at least 2 shifts at end summer Oakville Assy Plant is on 3 shifts in body and 2 x 10 hr on final trim |

I despise people that say rubbish like i am working at 110% etc it's foolish in the extreme. and i would sack one on the spot for such gibberish. 100% is the limit there is no more. 14% over a set limit is what it is. Driving a car with your foot flat to the floor is 100% end of story or it becomes a endless range of possibilities. |

Another thing....if everything in this world ran at 100% of its capacity...then there would be a hell of alot more breakages and failures. Think about it. 100% does not mean ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE. Its an agreed amounnt. |

100% utilisation in a Ford US plant = 2 x 8 hour shifts on final trim and body shop. At the moment, most body shops are doing 3 x 8 hour shifts, five days a week to feed the off line assembly and final trim lines at 2 x 10 hour shifts, five days a week. 3 x 8 hour shifts starts to bring up maintenance issues due to insufficient time between changes of shift. |
