Last Sunday I along with numerous other cars had to avoid a south bound car in the northbound lanes on the Hume hwy just north of Goulburn. Car behind me was extremely lucky as they had just got past a semi when they had to swerve. Cops got the person after a member of the public had forced the car to stop. Driver had his license suspended on the spot.

condolences to all involved. such a traigc event for the local community.

to the state government your "safety cameras" are useless. if they were called speed cameras i wouldnt have an issue. you have signs along the freeway stating "safety cameras in use" what good are they?

Hi. I have a couple of gripes about the system, the Age story mentioned 6 deaths on that bit of road for the same reason in the last 10 years and the police officer saying its easy to see how they can do it from the overpass. The SYSTEM is NOT working if the overpass can be driven on or off in the WRONG direction. Cheers MD

I am appauled at some of the posts in this thread.

If, and i say If, the BMW driver was on a suicide mission, how could safety cams or speed camera's be effective, it is not their intention to change the mind of an idiot, but to deter those who may decide to get home a little quicker.
As for the WRX driver not pulling over, for all we know they may have been following another car which dodged the BMW leaving the WRX with no time to react, that is just as plausible.

Either way, RIP

All very sad. In relation to the Subaru being overloaded, in my experience being from country Vic it is common for young people to overload cars. there wouldn't be many where I grew up that didn't do it at some stage. They shouldn't have done it but their cupability is wasy less than the BMW driver. Doesn't bring any of them back though.

Full Noise I'm not sure how you can presume to know what the driver of the Subaru saw or the circumstances in which he saw it. There are so many factors that could have come into play here that to simplify it down to your 18 second example is pointless. Speed, lighting, traffic, weather, undulations and curves in the road, condition of vehicles etc. The people in the subaru in the scheme of things made an error in judgement that many of us have made but they have paid the heaviest price.

This thread is not going anywhere.
Speculation, police & government bashing.
The results of the investigation will be known in due course.
