I was just browsing Google Images, and I came across this!
A NU Fairlane with the same factory Bullbar as my family's AUII Futura wagon, except the top bar is shaped differently. I can't find any evidence (nor have I seen this before!) of there being a bullbar for the Fairlanes. Custom order? Modified Falcon/Fairmont unit? Anyone else seen this or know anything? I think it suits our wagon better... |

Plenty of AUs had them here in north qld back in the day ...
No idea if it was factory or not (I would assume so due to the amount of work to cut the bumper etc... it would be costly addition if it was aftermarket.

You're quite right mate! Grew up with them, and regular visits to my uncle and aunty's wheatbelt farm, everyone has them haha! I prefer to have one at night while driving too!

Our AUII Futura wagon: And this Fairlane: Would be interesting to know how this car got one... Closest I ever saw was a retrofitted smart bar to a NU Fairlane |

The smart bull bar is listed as a dealer fit option in the NU 2 Fairlane brochure.

I see what you mean.. maybe it was revised at some point? Allow better bonnet access when your trying to open it? Looks like the lower bar would be in the way somewhat? customers complained and it got moved?

I'd say it was simply designed to suit the different shape of the Fairlane.

Falcons and Fairmonts had the same bar option as what's in the picture of our AUII Futura wagon, in silver or black (though I've seen a couple of colour coded ones too) from Series 1 thru 3. Never seen a Fairlane with one so I assumed it wasn't an option! |

Possibly because the 'Lane's bonnet and lights are more pronounced giving it a flatter front.
