What's interesting is to look around there and see which affordable mass-market cars will see a second generation with similar numbers. MX-5, B-Max and Land Rover Defender, among few others. The rest seem like niche, unpopular or old tooling. Why I thought this would be relevant, is because it offers a big picture look at how much longer Falcon can continue to be a business case. Taken as a whole, Falcon and Territory appear to have the combined numbers to be feasible for a while yet you'd think. Commodore is #384 and beats the Lexus IS, among a few others. Thoughts? |

Interesting stuff.
Big lol at the bottom of the list: Great Wall Coolbear. Some oddball names for cars that's for sure!

I'm surprised nobody has highlighted the impressive result of the Focus. Or that as many Territorys are sold as the famous Land Rover Defender worldwide.

All I have to say is potential sales figures for a Global RWD/AWD platform from last year:
Ford Explorer 194,349 Ford Mustang 91,580 Ford Taurus 87,457 Ford Flex 32,290 Ford Falcon 21,267 Ford Territory 16,412 Ford Crown Victoria 9,451 Lincoln MKS 13,146 Lincoln MKT 7,880 Lincoln Town Car 1,223 Total 475055 Do it Ford, if you can't no one can! (I have left out all suitable Mercury sales from last year but they would only add to the numbers. Obviously the Panther sales are for discontinued models, but they still sold...)

falcons only a bit below half way down the list, not bad considering it`s only sold here and against massive competition.

360,000 Mazda 3 sold worldwide. This means we are buying around 10% of the total output.

Noticed that the Vauxhall VXR8 has sold only 5. Isn't that the rebadged HSV? Looks like they might need a helping hand from the Holden marketing team

falcon only approx 300 less than the nissan patrol, worldwide? and only 2000 less than the BMW X6 worldwide?
i like this one, falcon sells 3000 more vehicles than the Audi TT, worldwide... rant now if only the federal govt listened to one of their own (Steve Bracks) and learnt about the Free trade agreements that they shouldn't have signed with Thailand and Malaysia, and you'd possibly see the falc and terry start selling there too./rant

You should standardise the values based on the population each model is sold to, in order to get a more appropriate number.

There were also 10,000 Chev Caprices, 1500 Buick Park Avenus and 700 Chev Luminas, which are also some rear wheel drive Aussie cars.
You start to realise perhaps Ford and Holden have a real oppurtunity to make global RWD cars. |

#20 - Wuling Sunshine!!!! Ugly mini van looking thing that has a badge like a flying bat.
#40 - Wuling Rongguang/Chevrolet N300, the bigger brother of the Sunshine.. also wears a bow tie in certain markets it seems... #55 - Wuling Hongguang - the twin brother to the Rongguand that got the better DNA... The Lada Niva is still being made! And that also wears a bow tie in certain markets. The fake Mazda BT-50 (JMC Tiger) sells more than the real one. The fake Nissan Pulsar (Cowin E5) is outsold by the real one by a factor of 5. Very surprised at how low on the list the i30 was, and was very impressed at where the Focus was. To be honest if I didn't see the list I would have assumed it was the other way around. There is a car model called King Kong????? Not all badge engineered cars have been grouped together, ie the Suzuki SX4 and the Fiat Sedici are one and the same, yet have different listings. That DR2 thinggo is a re-badged Cherry... hardly worth a mention, that Aston Martin Zagato on the other hand... Is there space for the Bantam in our local lineup I wonder? That list really opens your eyes to the amount of badge engineered cars there are in the world, and the amount of design cues the Chinese are borrowing from the established brands. Would have been a hard list to put together.

I'm not surprised the Corolla got top spot again worldwide. They're a great car...certainly better than the bland Camry and Aurion...

Interesting to note that if you count the Jetta as a Golf with a boot, then the Golf is the highest selling car by a fair margin. Is the Jetta still basically a booted Golf?

I believe the Jetta runs on a shortened Passat platform now, as opposed to an extended Golf platform.... but in saying that who really knows
