Hey guys, I'm after some advice on ceramic coating, I've got a Holset HE351VE turbo coming in the mail, and I'd like to get it ceramic coated, some quick google-fu says the black type is better than the shiny "look at me" one.
What parts of the turbo can you get coated? Just the exhaust housing? Or can I just send them the whole thing and it goes in for a dunk and inside/outside/spinning parts can be coated too? I'm interested because my coolant overflow bottle is actually right above the turbo on my GMC Sierra, and I'm having the feeling if I start putting out a lot of heat, she's going to melt? Has anyone had any experience with this stuff? Thanks much. |

Yep good stuff .. I have it on hot and cold sides.. critical areas I would still fabricate a shield though..

Is the new turbo any bigger Damo? Just wondering if it is of any benefit seeing as the setup would have probably been driven much harder on duty than you ever would?
Having said that, if it is just for piece of mind a combo of the coating and shield wouldn't go astray.

The boys over at Diesel Place forums have managed to control it crudely using a spring, its functional but obviously not as good as a car with the function mapped into its ECU.

Sorry, I have to ask; why don't you want to hear your turbo?

Because it will be around the same as this, which is freakin' loud.
http://youtu.be/K49Ge7PZuog?t=41s You can already hear the factory turbo spooling up loudly inside the cab, even with the windows closed and all the crap in the back rattling around. The outlet on the exhaust of this new turbo, is 4", so that pretty much means I'm running 4" exhaust from turbo to the tail pipe, so even with mufflers and a cat in there, its probably going to still be on the loud side. |

yeah have nothing but good things to say about this bloke, we welded up an item and sent it to get a coating to andrew, after blasting it he found a bit of dodgey weld, he re welded it up and did the coating no fuss no problems, top bloke.

HPC down in Leongatha are a great place, had all my housings and dumps done there. For memory my GT42 exh housing was $80, the finish is still perfect on it, id still run a blanket/beanie on it if you want to protect surrounding areas.
