Default Is he dreaming

I was just trolling ebay and found this.
I was wondering is this guy ok asking 60k for a restored xp futura or is this the way the market is heading since ford announced it's closure here sometimes i think 60k is excessive for a gt replica built from a xw-xy falcon 500 with all repro parts not even any genuine gt parts. But geez an xp for 60k I dunno

There's someone on car sales selling an R-Spec for 100k. In Victoria at least, you can still buy them from the dealer for 75k-80k

People will try and capitalise on whatever they can

its only worth what someone will pay for it. I wouldn't pay that much but someone who really wants it probably will.

Good un-molested XP coupes are thin on the ground...if its in good condition, no harm in trying.

Oh, it is as good as it looks.

I take it that you're buying then?

He'll need to take 30k off and he'll be around the mark.

Some people just don't understand that you don't make money off of a restoration (on a car like this).

Problem is, this one is molested. Trim is not original and it has had a full restoration. Not in original condition at all.

Not really molested, if its a faithful resto...

I was using "molested" more along the lines of something that had been hacked at to fit bigger rims, engines etc...

Fair enough. It is a great car. They are scarce, but I think it is overpriced.

I'd buy it if I had the spare cash. Tell how many are for sale in this condition that have only been restored and with the original motor? Then tell how many have been modified? What's the big deal with his asking price? If I bought this at $60k I'd still wouldn't look as stupid as the morons paying $500k+ got a GT-HO. Just because you don't think it's worth it doesn't mean your right...

Never said I was right, however, the time that it has been advertised indicates I might be.

It's one thing to say that you would pay it. It's another thing to have the cash and actually buy it.

It's a very nice car. 30k would see it out. I agree with you on the GT comment.

Its a bit rough under the bonnet, oil stains, deteriorated paintwork etc. Seen better ones for 30K! and it doesn't even have the optional heater or radio that would have been fitted to most Futuras. And XP Futuras are not that rare, XM Futuras are much thinner on the ground.

A sympathetic restoration is hardly molested in my view. And its cars like this that have any chance of a return on the resto outlay.

Eventually they will be worth some money. Unique cars had an Aston Martin Db4. The guy bought it for next to nothing (like under 4 grand i think back in the 80's) as everyone wanted the DB5. Restored it to original, now it is extimated 1million plus. The only convertible in the country too. The XP will get there one day. He thinks it is worth the money. Personally, i would go for a XC 5.8 fairmont or XE ESP. But hey - they will all increase in value when there is less of them on the road

I hear what you're saying, but just because someone spends $50000 on a reatoration doesn't mean they will get their money back. Good luck to him if he's does though, it's a great car. Give me an XA or XB GT over this any day.

vary rare 2 door one owner with books in A1 condition . he may find a buyer willing to get close to his price . if it had been butchered no way but this is a tidy original example , a real enthusiasts car

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

As it's been for sale for quite a while, clearly it has not been worth $60k to anyone.

I don't see anyone paying $60k for it anytime soon. Sure it's awesome, but excellent coupes are surely $30k or thereabouts - $40k tops.

His missus is probably making him sell it. He obviously does not want too hence the huge price. At least she thinks he's trying.

I don't think you'd be the only one. In coupe form, the XM is a real looker.

I must say though that I like the squarer front of the XP as I think it flows better with the lines of the rest of the car.

To be really honest, whilst I like the XK, I've always thought the front end was somewhat unfinished, or like it had been in a little crash. It's the way that the bumper turns upwards at the ends as well as the middle. I don't know how to explain it! LOL. Still great cars though.

yes but it is a wagon, no where as much appeal as the coupe. although I see why people buy wagons they do nothing for me

I also think that the XM was the best looking coupe, but the XL was the best looking sedan, specially the red trimmed Futuras, the convex grille made it look much trimmer and slimmer.
The XK looked like some sort of bottom feeding fish with it's mouth open, hoovering up bits of food as it swims along the sea bed

As for the XK in your picture I wonder what that would be worth, when I had a look at it in 2010 it only had 236 miles on the clock. I hope Ford look after it when they close the factory.
