Maybe responsibility for registration in company vehicles should go to the legal owner, not the employee/driver?
I agree with this.
My employer has a fleet of 100's of vehicles. Of which I may drive up to 5 a day on public roads... It is my responsibility to check the vehicle I'm driving is current otherwise I will be the liable person when I get pulled over.
I'd be happy for rego labels to stay.

What a pain it'd be if you were a mechanic road testing vehicles all day. You can't tell me everyone will keep their rego papers in the car.

A mechanic or TyreFitter/WheelAligner getting on their smartphone 5-10 times a day to check? I don't think so.

I'm not saying everyone checks the car they drive now. But I can guarantee once this is implemented number plate recognition stations and mobile units will be stepped up.

I'm in SA as well and usually renew my Rego via the Transport SA EZYREG website what I do object to though is paying the $ 7 admin fee, as I am doing their job for them I think that shouldnt be included in an online payment the same as I object to the inclusion of Stamp Duty on the CTP which bumps up the overall cost of the annual cost ..by the way has anyone out there a clue what the hell stamp duty is apart from another state sanctioned drain on your wallet .

I'm really going to miss that anticipation each year of opening the envelope and seeing whether the sticker will clash or match with the color of my car

QLD have discussed it and if they find a saving then they will eventually do it. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-2...ickers/4033030
The free Vicroads site http://vre.vicroads.vic.gov.au/VRESearch.aspx is good to find out about the rego and SA apparently has one too. Or without leaving your laptop you can do a PPSR check for $3.70 which tells the same only more and is a national system.

gone in NSW for light vehicles , when buying a vehicle the sell will obviously advertise the rego expiry as they do now, you can confirm this by looking at the papers. not rocket science but some people aren't happy unless they find something they can turn negative so they can whinge .

here is SA's site to check rego... can search if any SA car is registered or not.
Pretty simple.

Not pleased about this news. When I see an old classic I look at the rego sticker to confirm what year it was built. Without a sticker that will no longer be possible.

Pop the bonnet and look at the compliance plate perhaps?

You cannot pop the bonnet of a car which is parked (and locked) in public and the owner is not in the vicinity of the car.
