Registering car trailer in nsw

Hi guys, I guess this goes in the car section being about a car trailer lol
I acquired a car trailer off a mate yesterday, it ran out of rego last year and needs a rewire before blue slip... Do you need to have a green slip or insurance for regoing a trailer in nsw?
Or is it just passing the inspection and paying the fee and youre set?
Might be a dumb question but I've never owned a trailer before lol

I dont know about a car trailer but a regular trailer there is no green slip that side of things is covered by the tow vehicle

with rego you will probably need a weigh bridge ticket to go with your blue slip, but ask the blue slip guy to be certain, as if you have the old rego papers that might be OK

If you don't have the old rego papers get it weighed before you go to the blue slip place.Other than that just make sure it's presentable and all of the lights work and it has reflectors in the right places.The old no reflectors catches everyone out.

Make sure the tail lights work, clearence lights, mudflaps, double safety chain, electric or over-ride brakes.

It should have a VIN plate with the weight on it, if it doesn't, get it weighed first.

If it's been registered before it should already have a VIN and you will need
"proof of purchase" when you go to the RTA. Best thing is get a hold of the last rego papers. That will have the weight on it too.

Down side to large trailers they need an pink slip inspection every year.

I will be replacing the taillights and clearance lights that's all it really needs for rego, he's finding me the papers tomorrow so hopefully I can get it done the easy way

I have a car trailer,no need for green slip.Just have it inspected and in good working order.

I did the NSW trailer rego thing a few years ago. A blue slip (inspection) can be done at most mechanics 'if' they are rego certified. Get your new trailer weighed first (Most rubbish tip's have a weigh bridge as do metel recyclers), then book an inspection . A stiff lipped inspector may require a temp' rego' permit before they look at it but in most cases you can drive an unrego'd car/trailer directly from home to the "pre booked" inspection. Inspector will check lights (including number plate light), suspension-rubbers/bushes, mudflaps/guards, tyres, hitch-(high tensile bolts) and safety chain. The chain should be high tensile with a number stamped on a few of the links & must be welded to the trailer (not bolted). Once it's passed inspection (all inspection fee's governed by law) take your blue slip to a rego office, pay the rego fee+stamp duty on transfer & your done. If you don't have rego papers make sure you have a receipt from the seller including their full name and drivers licence number. If you can't locate the VIN then the inspector can stamp a new one on the draw bar. I don't believe you need specific insurance for a trailer (unless you bought a 5 or 10K job). When it's at home (in a secure yard/or lockable hitch) it's covered by most home & contents policies. When your towing it , it should be covered by the tow vehicles policy. Good luck.

Finishing paint this week, I've got the guidelines from the rta regarding everything from flooring to light spacing and reflectors haha
Been a long slow process, so much outside stuff going on
But yeah for sure people can use it it's going to sit idle majority of the time

I've got the papers for it from my mate, and the vin number is still visible I taped over it when I painted the drawbar so it was still legible
It had rego until last year, electric brakes still work and bushes are all guessable and no play
All the stuff you mentioned is there, welded chain, I have new hitch bolts and am rewiring it once it's painted plus all new lights
Saves money when I can do it all myself lol
