XR8s have 4v DOHC heads. The XL/XLS utes could be optioned with the optional V8 which was the 3V (3V SOHC with VCT)

Hi All, just to put my 2 bobs with in about the economy of V8's, I've got a G220, All stock as a rock from factory. I just did a run from Ballarat to Horsham, then up the hill at Mt Arapilies, back to Horsham to fill up and I worked it out I to 26.7 m/g or about 9.5 or so, Not bloody too bad for a stock G220. Will be doing work on it like Hurricane's, twin 2 1/4' system, CAI, 20% underpully and then I should get easy high 7's to mid 8's on a trip, Not bad for V8 5.4 3v I reckon. If you own a V8, Love em till they die, then give them life again, Cheers Kev.
