Default the smarter choice ?

Ford tell us the Falcon ecoboost is fuel efficent..

"the Falcon XT is the only model to return the 8.1L/100km economy figure, with the G6 and G6E models officially rated at 8.5L/100km."

So we have a full sized car with a turbo 4, to haul the family, dog, trailer and what have you around.

Why do we like the I6? - torque -

So why not do the smart thing, square up the I6 and sleeve to 2.5l - anyone what to bet the fuel figures would be better than the turbo 4 ?

Having driven the Generals 1.4 turbo 4 in the Cruze for 2000ks across the Eyre Hwy I can tell you 40+ degrees in the shade + little turbo do not make for a happy Aussie marriage.

Hmmm I dunno, a sleeved inline six will still be heavier than the ecoboost 4 potter, interesting idea though.

Ecoboost was a waste of time for Falcon and cant see what was the point of it. If you want cheap motoring EcoLPi is a far better choice - much cheaper to run , faster , tows 600kg more and is powered by locally produced fuel.
If it has to be a petrol power then hybrids are hard to beat , they get more efficient the heavier traffic gets.
