That linking of terms like "very neat original old car" and "good starting project" always give me flashbacks to that Castrol oil advert with the young guy who proudly inherited his grandfathers genuine Bathurst 350 Monaro that the old guy had owned since new..."low miles, absolutely original, a piece of history". Then he starts rolling off the mods...lowered it, flared the guards, repainted it, fitted a different engine and diff, modified it to buggery.

It might have been "a piece of history", but it sure ain't anymore...

I bought a nice tidy 302 XB Fairmont for 800 bucks a little over 10 years ago for a runaround. Of course I treated it like **** and just abandoned it after it had served its purpose Still have feelings of guilt now when I think about the condition I let it get to. I thought I would always be able to pick up a clean V8 XB for a few hundred.

Pretty much, a mate looking to buy an XA GT for 50 and has found nothing decent in 3 months.

IMO i think you need $60K to buy nice XA GT in a nice combo. especially a 4 speed car with a big port engine etc.

I'd not sell for less when an XY with the same gear goes for $100+

I'm talking premium combos though like lime glaze, cosmic, yelow, calypso...etc
