Its really sad to see the manufacturing part of the auto industry go, but its also an opportunity to bring in another value added industry....that is if the government is good enough to do it.

The Chinese are the same as any other emerging manufacturing giant.
The first offerings were crude but they improve just as the Japanese did in the 1960's. In fact they are using the same pattern as the Japanese in that they formed alliances with Western companies and then bloomed out on their own. GM will have the relevant QC standards at the plant as they have learned the lesson of having their people on site to deal with issues just as the other major corporations have. If ZF have a transmission plant there I'm sure its good enough for others too. All the Chinese have to do is buy up the place, keep dumping their cheap consumer goods and trinkets and we will all be happy little vegemites

You guys really need to stop relying on Google translate for your err "Chinese". They use simplified characters not these! I can see the logic in GMHs thoughts of building a Bombodoor overseas, if you asked the majority of everyday non car enthusiasts where all Holdens are made, chances are the response would be "in Australia of cause". So not killing the Commodore nameplate would continue to give them credibility with their new "Commodore". Everyday drives could and would believe that it's still somehow part of Australian culture. The marketing Dept may even be able to sell it as all Australian!
