The Alpheon is a large four door sedan made by GM Korea, better known as Daewoo.
It's not like Holden are apposed to importing Daewoos, as four of the 6 models offered by them are Daewoos anyway. Yes, it's a terrible car, but so is the Captiva and Cruize, not sure on the Malibu and Barinas and their quality, but are probably rubbish anyway. (Happy to be corrected on that).

With the news that the Commodore replacement might be a Chinese-sourced sedan, it is possible that it could be the next generation Daewoo Alpheon. It's also known as the Buick LaCrosse in the US.

There won't be a "Commodore replacement". No other large GM car anywhere in the world is made in RHD - there are simply no RHD markets that want large sedans. The Malibu will likely be the biggest sedan sold here after the Commodore departs.

holden never said they will stop the commodore just stop production in australia so i guess we are looking at a Commodore designed in aus built in either korea or thailand with parts from china and maybe some parts from aus.. maybe until the US cans commodore all together
i pulled the stock speakers out of my 2001 commodore and they proudly say made in china. i was told the toyota camry has more aussie made parts than a commodore anyway

The fact that the next gen large GM car may be designed in Australia does not necessarily mean it will be sold here. The Camaro was designed largely in Australia but never ended up being made in RHD. The same will probably be the case with the new large sedan. The numbers for RHD just won't stack up - we would likely be the only RHD market in the world who would want such a car (aside from NZ).

The Camaro isn't made in RHD and I don't believe it ever will be. Part of the reason is that Chevy will no longer be a global brand (it's being phased out in Europe). Ford, on the other hand, is global so the Mustang can be sold at Ford dealers worldwide. Which dealers would sell a RHD Camaro, especially here in Australia? Holden dealers selling a Chevy-badged model? I'd like to see it.

Camaro is not being made in RHD. It is not global. Unlike Mustang. In any case, the Camaro will never be badged as a Holden.

GM could get Camaro and other models here but there would have to be A LOT more chatter than their currently is for it to get here around the same time as Mustang.

No matter what Holden do their sales will be OK. They aren't a stupid company. Ford on the other hand have probably the best small, and medium sized cars on the market and still don't come close to selling decent amounts of them.

Can't they just put a Commodore badge on a Malibu?
Holden fans wouldn't notice.

HSV in its current form will not last much past November 2015 . . . Fusion Automotive will be the main player at Clayton and the whole structure will change and downsize
Holden will be gone as a manufacturer long before 2017 . . . the Engineering division at Holden inc Lang Lang will cease in 2014 - that's a fact . . . Holden Dealers are going to become GM dealers with the large GM blue logo gracing their Showrooms and a range of other brands to support the corporate look . . . The Holden Logo/Brand will stay for a while with Commodore , Cruze, Colorado & Captiva . . . The Chevy Logo will feature with 3 products inc the Sixth Gen Camaro which will be released soon to the Media . . . expect to see up to 5 Chevy products inc Silverado's . . expect to see Cadillac and one other GM brand feature on the new and revigorised dealership floor. . . . We are Ford guys but it will be an exciting time - don't expect to see the HSV logo anywhere in showrooms. Thanks GR |

I would have used the word, "challenging" rather than "exciting" for GMH dealers.

Seriously, who gives a rats ****?
Yes, GM will stop manufacturing here and that is important news because irrespective of affiliation it is bad news for Australian manufacturing and Australian workers. The demise of the Commode is noteworthy simply because of the long rivalry, but we've actually known about that for years. (Even before the end of the Falcon was announced it was well known that any future commode would be FWD 4 and maybe 6.) I certainly couldn't care less what pieces of Korean/ Chinese/ Brazilian/ Polish **** GM chooses to import in the future. |

Current Camaro is only just approaching 5 years old, and it only just got a facelift. This means the new model is still years away.
