Default Mobil is Back!

Fairfax reports 7-Eleven on the East coast, have agreed to allow its pumps to rebrand as Mobil.
The reason- customer preference for a 'premium' brand of Premium fuels instead of a downmarket supermarket fuel.

My sources [which aren't very reliable] told me if it wasn't for Mobil 1 oil sales [bulk sales to dealers etc] Mobil would have pulled out of this region ages ago.
Still it's a good publicity [trying to think of a word] event.

We've got 7-11 servos in QLD, but there's only two refineries in QLD to my knowledge - BP and Caltex, both are around the port of Brisbane. There's other ports in QLD, but not a refinery near them AFAIK. I've got no idea where Mobil comes from in Oz.

What refineries do you folk have in our other states?

Pardon me for my naivety - but is this is all about branding for the sake of attracting customers?

Cheers!

Edit: We are all buying the same **** at mad prices!

As far as I can work out, the only reason Mobil (last one in Oz?) is still in Melbourne is to process the Bass Strait natural gas and oil from where WE get our autogas and may be the last one standing in time.

There are underground pipelines to all the other major terminals and the airport so that refinery will be distributing their refined products to the other company's terminals > that happens in every capital city. [borrow and loan]

AFAIK Adelaide n Sydney don't/aren't going to have a single refinery but I guess, shipping terminal storage from whence they will pump it to the airports using existing pipes.

I think it's worth noting that the petrol itself was always Mobil, it's just now they're bringing back the brand because people like to see what they're getting. They'll still be 7-Elevens, just like Coles Expresses have Shell secondary branding and Woolworths Petrol have Caltex secondary branding (though why you'd advertise the fact that you serve up Caltex petrol is beyond me...)

Yet another marketing triumph it seems...another example of 'brand power'.

When our new 7/11 opened I asked the operator which brand of 98 fuel do they sell, he showed me his fuel delivery docket it was Mobil 98.
