Default VIV and re-reg process for Stolen and Recovered cars

Anyone been through this process in Victoria??

A mate of mine bought a BA XR6 which was stolen and recovered and is on the WOVR, and as such needs a VIV.

I have helped him get the car running. He got it at a good price for a 2005 6M with full leather and 18's along with some mods. It has been returned to standard, and the locks etc replaced.

He is about to book the VIV and I've been trying to work out what exactly they check besides the identity in a SR car.. some people say they still check the structure and other RW items and others say it's just an identity check and any work that has been carried out post recovery needs to be documents.

If someone has any heads up information let us know. Re-inspection is $80 if you fail the first inspection, so would be handy to pass the first one.

Your best bet is to book then ring who is inspecting and ask them exactly what they want to see. I have my vivs done in geelong and both inspection centres ask for completely different things. When you book they email you a check list of paperwork required

In case of a theft there is two reasons why a car would be on the WOVR list.

First reason the car was not recovered within the time frame the policy has for theft and has Write Off the car based on the fact that it was x amount of days.

Second reason is the car was recovered, but too much damage to the car to repair and is written off by insurance company.
